foreign affairs minister geoffrey onyeama said nedi was a platform and mechanism for matching and connecting businesses1 nigeria has launched economic diplomacy initiative nedi insisting on commitment to ensuring adequate consultation especially with private sector in taking vital economic decisions1 we are also committed to ensuring adequate consultation is made especially with the private sector before we make further commitment to some of the international treaties that are important to us1 he said nigeria was also committed to strengthening economic ties at the official level on issues like technical cooperation air services double taxation investment promotion and protection and citizens rights among others1 he noted that the trade and investment ties between countries were driven mainly by their private sector actors1 in the case of nigeria he said that the private sector was particularly important because it accounted for well over 90 per cent of our gdp1 we are fully aware that building a competitive and vibrant national economy of our dream relies on enabling the innovation and dynamism of our private sector operators to flourish1 given that private sector actors and indeed talented individuals that would drive trade and investment are numerous it follows that they may not have access or the means to obtain the information they need about the opportunities that abound especially abroad1 so the vision of the minister to use the nedi to bridge the vital gap is a welcome development indeed he said1 vice president yemi osinbajo who launched the nedi an initiative of the foreign affairs ministry said the country was committed to all pan african and other deal that had made nigeria to stand out as a country with a view to integrate africa1 according to him nedi seeks to surmount all business huddles and barriers by leveraging on the ministrys presence in 100 countries to match nigerian and foreign businesses1 this we do through an internet portal where any nigerian business after satisfying credibility check can upload their data onto a website1 and with the help of dedicated staff and the information would be available to nigerian staff in missions in the 100 countries he said1 according to him in addition to nedi the ministry also created a window for diaspora brain gain adding that there are millions of nigeria who would want to come home if they can find job commensurate to their skills1 and conversely we know that there are nigerian institutions and businesses that are looking for skills not available in the country1 we have therefore added a window where nigerians in diaspora can upload their profile and the ministry will help to match them to needs of businesses and institutions in nigeria1 what nedi add is a simple credibility and secured environment to grow the nigerian economy he said1 he said that the ministry would soon launch an internet base mechanism for validating document with payment online to check corrupt practices1 -

it also criminalizes the diversion distribution or otherwise dispensing of controlled substances without a prescription or license1 the senate has developed and is set to initiate two draft bills for legislation to tackle the menace of drug abuse in the country especially among youth1 the proposed bills are national drug control bill and national mental health bill1 a statement by the media office of the president of the senate said the drug control bill seeks to clarifies the mandate and strengthen the capacity of national drug law enforcement agency ndlea and the national agency for food and drug administration control nafdac and other relevant law enforcement and regulatory bodies to eradicate the illicit production and trafficking of controlled substances1 it also seeks to establish a central mechanism to facilitate collaboration among law enforcement regulatory and public health authorities in line with the national drug control policy1 the bill further focuses on proactive law enforcement and regulatory measures towards the eradication of the illicit importation production and trafficking of controlled substances1 the bills are coming as the outcome of the roundtable convened by the president of the senate dr abubakar bukola saraki in december 2017 in kano on the rising spate of drug abuse in the country1 in recognition of the fact that psychosocial issues are the key drivers for the abuse of psychoactive substance the mental health bill was crafted to ensure that standard facilities are available in every state to provide mental health and substance abuse services1 the proposed law guarantees the protection of the rights of people with mental illness and stipulates that mental health practitioners and facilities no longer engage in practices that are harmful to people with mental health and substance use disorders1 in recognizing the low number of mental health practitioners in the country with the ratio of practitioners at one psychiatrist to 1.6 million people the draft law makes provision for quality mental health and substance abuse services available for women and adolescents who are an underserved segment of the population1 commenting on the draft bills saraki said a provision for stiffer sanctions would be made in the bills as proactive mechanism in the prevention of drug trafficking and abuse1 he pledged the commitment of the senate in the speedy passage of the bills to give a legal framework to help mitigate drug abuse in the country1 -

popular sierra leonean traditional artist ahmed janka nabay has died in his home in northern sierra leonean district of kambia according to his band colleague pa fullah1 janka moved to the us in 2003 and returned home last year1 nabay known as the king of bubu music played the traditional music of the temne people of sierra leone who dominate the northern part of the country1 the music which has its roots in the sierra leonean muslim tradition is played with the traditional bamboo flutes1 nabayy 54 who died on monday was credited for being the first musician to record this version of music by reworking the bamboo flutes and metal pipes with electronic instrumentation hence the tag king of bubu music1 according to the dreadlocked artist was best known internationally especially in the united states where he relocated in 2003 and returned only in 20171 nabay and his bubu gang band made the bubu music popular in brooklyn and manhattan in the us1 fans have taken to twitter to mourn the musician1 according to karen alonzo janka nabay was so passionate about bringing the bubu sound of sierra leone to the world. it was such an honor to work with him i was new to the music industry as a whole like 2010 and he was the nicest human being ever. my heart is so sad1 ruby b. johnson @rubybjohnson said sierra leone has lost a legend but his legacy lives on. rip ahmed janka nabay king of bubu music. such an amazing man to have met and be around1 -
