The United States (U.S.), is halting humanitarian funding to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, the State Department has confirmed.

The move comes just days after President Donald Trump warned of a new migrant caravan heading toward the southern U.S. border and issued warnings that he planned to close the U.S.-Mexico border next week if Mexico did not do more to stop caravans of migrants.

Many are also fleeing Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador and attempting to gain entry into the U.S.

At the Secretarys instruction, we are carrying out the Presidents direction and ending FY 2017 and FY 2018 foreign assistance programs for the Northern Triangle.

We will be engaging Congress as part of this process, a State Department spokesperson told USA TODAY.

Trump has long threatened to cut off humanitarian aid to the countries, including before the 2018 midterm elections when he held a slew of rallies and warned of an invasion of migrants from the countries.

He recently declared a national emergency at the border to secure funding for a proposed wall, despite Congressional opposition.

On Friday, the president threatened to close the U.S.-Mexico border if Mexico didnt stop undocumented migrants from coming.

Theres a very good likelihood that Ill be closing the border next week, Trump told reporters gathered at his Florida resort. I will close the border if Mexico doesnt get with it.

Historically, the United States has viewed foreign aid programs to Central American countries as a vital component of stabilising the countries, potentially halting the flow of immigrants seeking to migrate to the United States. Under Trump, aid to the countries had already plummeted.

The U.S. provided about $131 million in aid to Guatemala, $98 million to Honduras, and $68 million to El Salvador in 2016, according to Reuters.

The following year the funding fell to about $69 million for Guatemala, $66 million for Honduras and $46 million for El Salvador.

In April, Trump also threatened to withdraw aid from Honduras a caravan of migrants fled the country.

The group, which grew to as many as 1,600 migrants, grew smaller as it moved north. By the time they reached Tijuana, on the Mexican side of the southern U.S. border, only about 300 migrants remained.

Honduras murder rate has declined in recent years but it still had the fourth-highest rate among Latin American nations in 2017 at 42.8 per 100,000 residents, according to Insight Crime.

Only Venezuela, El Salvador and Jamaica suffered more murders in the region that year.

According to the World Bank, 66 percent of Hondurans live in poverty and about one out of five Hondurans in rural areas live on less than $1.90 a day.

Long before Trump took office, the United States had a checkered history of involvement in Central America and some say American foreign policy in the region caused the instability and inequality at the root of the current crisis.

There was the CIAs covert operation to overthrow Guatemalas democratically elected president in 1954, and Americas intervention in El Salvadors civil war in the 1980s.

And the Obama administrations refusal in 2009 to label the ouster of Honduras president a military coup even though soldiers dragged him out of bed in the middle of the night and sent him into exile in his pajamas.

Jeff Faux, a distinguished fellow at the Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning think tank, said the decades-long history of American intervention has left Central American governments weak and fragile while empowering oligarchs and drug cartels, which has, in turn, fueled the corruption and gang violence that drives residents to flee.

Four armed men suspected to be operatives of Department of State Services (DSS) on Saturday whisked away a journalist, Jones Abiri, to an disclosed location.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abiri, the publisher of Weekly Source Newspaper, who was incarcerated for two years on suspicion of terrorism, was whisked away at about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, Abiri was in company of some collegues at his office at Azikoro junction of Yenagoa when the armed men arrived at the scene in a white Hilux Van and black Prado Jeep. They dragged and pushed him into one of the vehicles and drove off.

Austin Bodo, a journalist who witnessed the incident, said we were sitting outside his office when a black Prado jeep and white Hilux drove into the premises in commando style.

As they parked, two men carrying the type of guns used by DSS operatives, jumped out of one of the cars and said Abiri was under arrest and immediately started dragging him and forced him into one of the cars and drove off.

Another witness, Mr. Bankole Abdulazeez, said we were discussing national issues when the cars drove in.

Two armed men came out of the cars and without identifying themselves, they said you are under arrest and started dragging him.

They threatened to shoot anybody that tries to stop them.

I heard him shouting what have I done again? what have I done again? Before they finally dragged him into one of the cars and drove off, he said.

When contacted, a DSS Official, who preferred anonymity, said: I only heard of it from a journalist friend; I dont think it is our men from here.

No fewer than 42 registered political parties in Kano State have supported expressed their support to the outcome of the supplementary election that produced the re-election of Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano.

The political parties are happy that Ganduje of All Progressives Congress (APC) won the just concluded governorship election which opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked against.

The political parties came together on the platform of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

The CUPP chairman in the state, Alhaji Nuhu Isah, who paid a congratulatory visit to the governor, expressed dismay over a purported news conference held in Kano where it was reported that the coalition condemned the entire process due to alleged electoral irregularities.

Isah who is also the chairman, lnter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), said the 42 political parties were satisfied with the election outcome and would not challenge it at the tribunal.

We are shocked to read the contents of the news conference discrediting the whole conduct of the process, security agencies, INEC and worst still the declaration to challenge the outcome of the exercise.

We in CUPP comprising the representatives of the 42 political parties in the coalition, and joined by the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC), categorically disown and disassociate the coalition from the sham press conference as well as condemn it in its entirety.

We also express our dismay at the action of the conveners of the news conference for using the coalition to express personal and untoward views for whatever reasons and influence under the guise of CUPP, he said.

He noted that the coalition monitored the supplementary election in Kano and in all sincerity believed it to be free, fair and peaceful.

Isah also acknowledged that there were pockets of violence in some polling units which magnitude were insignificant to warrant any call for cancellation of the election or legal redress at the tribunal.

Earlier, Gov.Ganduje wondered why only the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faulted the re-run election while it was not the only party that participated.

He promised to run an all-inclusive government, which would be anchored on unity to develop Kano state.

The Adamawa governorship supplementary election has successfully commenced in 14 Local Government Areas across the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who visited some polling units on Thursday in Yola, the state capital, reports that the exercise was moving smoothly.

Speaking with NAN, Ms Furera Adamu, INEC Presiding Officer in charge of Mustafa Primary School polling units in Bako ward in Yola, said the election started at 8 a.m.

Adamu said that so far, there was no problem of card readers malfunction, adding that electorate were turning out to cast their votes.

The election started at 8 a.m in my unit and so far, there is no any problem as our card readers are functioning effectively.We have enough security operatives deployed, Adamu said.

At the Bako Primary School polling unit 007 in Yola South Local Government Area, the election started as scheduled.

In Girei and Fufore Local Government Areas, the exercise was moving smoothly as electorates were casting their votes orderly and peacefully.

Speaking with NAN, Mr Kasim Gaidam, Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state said the commission was well prepared for the election where about 358 staff engaged for the supplementary election.

He said the election was been conducting in 14 local government areas in the 44 affected polling units and in 29 wards.

Gaidam said areas where the elections were being conducted include: Yola South, Fufore, Ganye, Girei, Guyuk, Hong, Lamurde, Numan, Madagali, Michika, Mubi North, Shelleng, Song and Toungo Local Government Areas.

Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has taken his case to the Court of Appeal in Abuja, asking for reversal of the March 22 judgment of Osun Election Tribunal which declared Sen. Ademola Adeleke winner of September 2018 election.

The tribunal had, by a majority judgment given by two of its three members, voided the election of Oyetola, pronounced the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate winner and asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue him a certificate of return.

In a notice appeal filed on March 26, by his team of lawyers led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Oyetola urged the appellate court to nullify the tribunal judgment given by Justices Peter Obiora and Anyinla Gbolagunte.

Oyetola faulted the majority judgment on the grounds that it was perverse, replete with contradictions and not supported by evidence led by the petitioners.

The Osun governor, therefore, prayed the Court of Appeal to uphold his appeal, set aside the majority judgment and dismiss Adelekes petition at the tribunal.

The governor said his complaint in the appeal was against the entire majority judgment, except where the tribunal held that it lacked jurisdiction to set aside INEC Guidelines.

Oyetola contended that the majority judgment was a nullity because it was written and delivered by Justice Obiora, who did not participate in all the proceedings of the tribunal and who was not present when all the witnesses gave evidence.

He noted that Justice Obiora was absent on Feb. 6 this year when the respondents witnesses (RWs) 12 and 13 Ayoola Soji and Oladejo Kazeem testified and tendered exhibits, which the tribunal admitted in evidence.

The appellant argued that, Justice Obiora could not have seen the two witnesses and was unable to examine their demeanour, as required, and therefore, unlawful for the judge to have authored a judgment to review the evidence given by the witnesses.

Oyetola also argued that the tribunal, in its majority judgment, erred in law and acted without jurisdiction when it accepted the petitioners complaint of non compliance with the provisions of Electoral Act in relation to the September 22, 2018 governorship election and on that basis proceeded to nullify the victory of Oyetola and APC.

The appellant noted that, no where in the entire petition, did Adeleke and the PDP complain about non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act in relation to the September 22, 2018 election.

He added that the only ground, in the petition, alleging non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act was in relation to the re-run election held on September 27, 2018.

Oyetola noted that the tribunal contradicted itself in its conclusion, in page 191 of the majority judgment, to the effect that the information omitted by the election officers in the Forms EC8A in the 17 polling units, where the tribunal voided results, were essential to proving over-voting.

Oyetola said: All petitioners witnesses testified and admitted that petitioners were not short-changed regarding the scores recorded for them in each Form EC8A tendered, and that no addition of votes was reflected in favour of the appellants.

By cancelling of elections in 17 poling units, the lower tribunal acted without jurisdiction. By deciding as aforesaid, the lower tribunal discountenanced Section 139(1) of the Electoral Act.

Oyetola also faulted the tribunals decision to void the re-run election when the petitioners did prove that there were elections in the seven polling units where the re-run election took place and that the results were wrongly cancelled.

He noted that the petitioners did not plead nor adduce evidence that the presiding officers of the affected seven polling units had ab initio (on his own/without any prompting) approved of the elections at the polling units.

He added that the petitioners did not tender the results from the seven polling units.

The appellant also noted that the petitioners did not call in their agents from the affected polling units as witnesses; did not tender documentary evidence to show that it was the returning officer that unilaterally cancelled the elections.

Oyetola also argued that the tribunal acted outside its jurisdiction, erred in law and arrived at a perverse decision when it engaged in calculating and subtracting from election results to arrive at proclaiming Adeleke and PDP as being victorious.

The appellant noted that, while the petitioners, in their relief, put the total votes of parties, after the deduction of the cancelled votes, at : APC 241,335 and PDP:246,634, the tribunal, in its judgment, after making its computation and deduction, allocated the parties: APC 253,452 and PDP 253, 777.

Oyetola argued that, where the petitioners failed to tender the press release they claimed INEC issued in respect of the cancelled elections, and also failed to tender results from the seven polling units, the tribunal was in error to have acceded to the petitioners prayer to void the said press release.

The appellant also argued that the tribunal contradicted itself when, on the one hand, it nullified the re-run election of September 27, 2018, but on the other hand, went ahead to void the election of the appellant on the same election.

He further argued: Having rightly held that it lacks the jurisdiction to strike down and nullify the approved guidelines and regulations for the conduct of the Osun governorship election 2018, made by INEC, the tribunal mis-directed itself in law and came to a perverse decision by going ahead to nullify the re-run election.

Oyetola also argued that the tribunal was wrong to have declared Adeleke winner of the election, held on September 22 and 27, 2018 on grounds of non-compliance rather than ordering a re-run election.

He noted that, not only did the decision disenfranchise the electorate in the affected polling units, it violated the provisions of Section 140(2) of the Electoral Act.

Oyetola argued that, since elections were concluded in the polling units; results counted and recorded in the appropriate forms, and no one contested the quantum of votes scored by the parties, the reasons given by the tribunal to void the votes did not affect the result of the election.

He added: The lower tribunal wrongly disenfranchised the electorate in the said polling units after casting their votes and without any challenge to the scores generated from the voting exercise.

The appellant prayed the court of to dismiss the petition by Adeleke and PDP, for being unmeritorious and set aside the majority decision of the tribunal, which he argued, is against the weight of evidence. (NAN)

The photo-finish governorship race in Sokoto State, where incumbent Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party only managed to beat Ahmed Aliyu,the APC challenger with 342 votes has had a mirror-image in the strength of the parties in the state assembly.

Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party extended his lead in the governorship election in Adamawa after the collation of the supplementary election on Thursday.

He won in all the 14 local government areas, where supplementary election took place, polling 8,839 votes.

Incumbent Gov. Muhammadu Jubrilla Bindow of APC got 1,391 votes.

At the conclusion of the election on 23 March, Fintiri led Bindow with 32, 476 votes.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Andrew Haruna, will announce the final figures for the two candidates after midnight and from all indications, Fintiri will be announced the winner.

Before the make-up poll, Fintiri had 367,471 votes while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Jubrilla Bindow had 334,995 votes.

Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri of Peoples Democratic Party has emerged winner of Adamawa Governorship election.

The Returning Officer of the election, Prof. Andrew Haruna, who declared the result Thursday in Yola after the supplementary election in 44 units across 14 local government areas of the state said Fintiri polled 376,552 votes to beat his closest rival, Gov. Muhammadu Bindow of APC who scored 336,386 votes.

Sen. Abdul-Azeez Nyako of ADC scored 113,237 votes, while Chief Emmanuel Bello of SDP got 29,792 votes.

Fintiri born in October 27, 1967 in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa is a graduate of History from University of Maiduguri.

He was the Speaker of Adamawa House of Assembly in 2014 and also served as Acting Governor in July 2014 following the impeachment of then Gov. Murtala Nyako.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said saboteurs and politicians in cassock attempted to prevent its leadership from paying congratulatory visit to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President of CAN, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, at State House after the leadership of CAN visited Buhari on Friday, dismissed the allegation that pressure was mounted on the CAN leaders to congratulate the president on his re-election.

A national daily and some online platforms had reported that some influential people working closely with the Federal Government were mounting pressure on CAN leadership to pay a congratulatory visit to Buhari.

The report quoted a source closed to CAN leadership as saying: If you know the pressure mounted on CAN leadership that we, as a body, have to go and congratulate the president.

However, the church is saying this election is controversial and we see what is happening. But, they are still mounting pressure seriously.

They are telling us if we dont congratulate him, it means we are against him and that we are partisan.

However, we are saying let them resolve the issues (in court) before we go and congratulate whoever wins. Thats the situation we find ourselves as the Church of God.

The CAN leader, however, dismissed the report, saying it was the handiwork of saboteurs and enemies of progress, who did not wish the association well.

He said: Saboteurs who didnt want us to come here (Aso Rock). We are old enough to know what to do and what not to do.

If somebody like me after 60 years of age will be under pressure it means that my life would never have meaning again.

But by the grace of God we have a meaningful life, I know what to do. By Gods grace He has prepared me well for this assignment.

So, those distractors and those politicians in cassock should go and find better job to do, he said.

Ayokunle noted that the CAN leadership was in the villa not only to congratulate the president on his re-election, but to remind him of the yearnings of Nigerians.

The cleric said that Nigerians wanted him to perform 100 per cent better than that of the first term.

He, therefore, advised the president that only the best Nigerians should be considered while constituting his new cabinet, stressing that he should do more in addressing socio-economic challenges facing the citizens.

Now, he has mastered the job; he has mustered enough strengthen to be able to go full swing into action.

We want him to do more on security- kidnappings almost everywhere and the issue of insurgency in the northeast, the insurgents should be silenced once and for all.

These ethnic militias that have now moved to the northwest, which used to be peaceful, and they are now causing violence there before they will grow wings their wings should be clipped completely, he added.(NAN)

Three days after the Court of Appeal upheld an earlier judgment of Federal High Court, nullifying Jones Erue-led faction of APC executive committee in Delta, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege said he was undaunted.

He restated that his re-election was valid.

Omo-Agege, who re-contested the senatorial seat on the platform of APC faction led by Erue, said his re-election remains valid and legitimate.

Omo-Agege, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, said in a statement by Godwin Anaughe, his Senior Special Assistant, Communications and Strategy, in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Court of Appeal, Benin, had on March 29, upheld the earlier judgment delivered by the Asaba Federal High Court which nullified the Jones Erue-led APC state executive committee.

Omo-Agege and Rev. Francis Waive had earlier filed an application seeking the leave of court to join as parties to the appeal, on behalf of themselves and other candidates of the APC, against the judgment of the Asaba court.

Reacting, the lawmaker said it was instructive to note that the ruling delivered by the Court of Appeal only struck out the application on the ground that they cannot appeal the judgment as individuals since they were both members of APC who can appeal the judgment on their behalf.

According to him, the APC has already filed an appeal against the judgment.

Omo-Agege, who said that the Benin Appeal Court has not and did not determine the appeal filed before it by the APC, reiterated that the consent judgment delivered by Justice A.I. Chikere of the Abuja Federal High Court was still valid and subsisting.

And all the recent happenings in court have neither invalidated nor set aside the consent judgement.

Therefore, the Prophet Jones Erue-led Exco remains the authentic and legitimate APC Executive Committee of Delta, so also are all the candidates of APC in the just-concluded 2019 General Elections, he said.

According to him, it is settled law that a court cannot make a finding that will be prejudicial against a person that is neither before it nor a party to the case and cannot in the same vain grant a relief which will affect a person who is not a party in the suit.

OKONKWO vs. OKAGBUE (1994) 9 NWLR (PT 368) 301. The effect of Order(s) made against persons not joined as a party is that such order is a nullity and of no effect.

This remains the position of the law as affirmed by the Supreme Court in plethora of cases, including but not limited to the case of OKONTA VS PHILIP.

Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje has clawed back from the jaw of death to win re-election in Kano State, overcoming the main challenger, Abba Kabir-Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party by 8982 votes, after the supplementary elections held on Saturday.

According to the result announced by the returning officer, Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress polled 1,033,695 votes while Kabir-Yusuf got 1,024,713 votes.

The PDP agent reportedly walked out of the collation centre before the announcement of the result.

Before the supplementary election, the PDP candidate had 1,014,474 votes, while Ganduje got 987,819 votes.

In the supplementary elections held in polling units in 28 LGAs, Ganduje got an upper-hand,
winning 45,876 votes while the PDP candidate got 10,239 votes.

The Collation Officer in Kano, Prof. Bello Shehu, declared Ganduje the winner having satisfied requirements of the law by scoring the highest number of votes.

According to Shehu, the winner was declared after the collation of result from all the affected 28 local government areas where the supplementary elections was conducted on Saturday March 23.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the governorship election was earlier declared inconclusive following the high number of cancelled votes as a result of violence and over-voting.

According to the collation officer, the total number of votes cancelled during the earlier election which led to the declaration of the poll as inconclusive was more than the margin between the PDP candidate who was leading with 26,000 votes and that of the APC candidate.

NAN recalled that the votes cancelled during the March 9 governorship election was 128,572 votes.

Meanwhile, the PDP Chairman in Kano, Alhaji Suleiman Rabiu Bichi has rejected the entire re-run election, especially that of Gama in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

The PDP Chairman further described the election processes as shameful and called for the immediate cancellation of the exercise.

According to him, the party will not accept the result. It therefore refused to sign it.

Kano residents believed it was Gods wish that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje was declared re-elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission and have resolved to help him with prayers.

A resident of Rijiyar Zaki quarters in the state, Engr Ahmad Nafiu, said they would remain prayerful that the choice became the best for the State.

He explained that INEC was a professional body that might have gone extra miles to achieve what it did, especially with the nature of the state.

Another resident Malam Musa Abdallah, also said that Muslims were expected to believe in destiny and Gandujes should be considered as one.

He prayed to God to guide the Governor to do the best for the benefit of the state.

Women were also not left out as Malama Amina Muhammed, a housewife said that though she was neutral about who would win the elections, that there was need to pray for Ganduje now that he had emerged victorious.

She enjoined all residents including the opposition to support the administration in order to build Kano.

Amina said that side talks at this moment will not change the situation. Whatever God wills, will surely come to pass so lets not loose our belief.

The re-elected governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje , has thanked the people for re-electing him for a second term and promised to run an all-inclusive government and carry everyone along.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Ganduje, winner of the Kano State governorship supplementary election held Saturday.

In the supplementary election held in 28 out of the 44 local government areas in the state, Ganduje won by scoring 45,876 votes to the PDP Abba Yusufs 10,239.

The State Returning Officer, Prof. Bello Shehu, announced that Ganduje scored a total vote of 1,033,695 while Yusuf polled 1,024,713.

In his re-election speech on Sunday night in Kano, the governor called on everyone to join hands with him to build the state.

The governor thanked the people for their belief in his capacity to lead them and for the peaceful conduct of the March 23 re-run election.

The governor also promised not to fail the electorate and that he would consolidate on his achievements and also embark on people-oriented projects.

Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has thanked God and the people of the state for re-electing him for a second term.

NAN reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Ganduje, winner of the Kano State governorship supplementary election held Saturday.

In the supplementary election held in 28 out of the 44 local government areas in the state, Ganduje won by scoring 45,876 votes to the PDP Abba Yusufs 10,239.

State Returning Officer Prof. Bello Shehu, announced that Ganduje scored a total vote of 1,033,695 while Mr Yusuf polled 1,024,713.

He also said that he would run an all inclusive government that will carry everyone along in the administration of the state.

The governor thanked the people for their belief in his capacity to lead them and for the peaceful conduct of the March 23 re-run election.

The governor also promised not to fail the electorate.

He said he would consolidate on his achievement and also embark on people oriented projects.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit challenging the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resume collation of results in Bauchi governorship election.

Mohammed Abubakar, incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had challenged INECs decision.

The Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress President-elect has formally lodged a complaint against the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate for criminally hacking into the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The complaint lodged in a letter today to the Acting Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services, followed the citing of alleged election results contained in the server in the petition filed by Abubakar Atiku and the PDP against the election of President Buhari.

Atiku claimed he was the winner of the election and that he got 1.6million more votes than President Buhari.

The complaint signed by Festus Keyamo, the Buhari campaign spokesman, urged the police and the DSS to invite, interrogate and investigate the PDP leaders over their admittance of illegal access to the INEC server.

The letter said the figures being quoted by the PDP were the fake voting figures posted on the server before the postponement of the presidential election on 16 February.

The only conclusion one can draw from the above is that the PDP had prepared those results which were to be smuggled into the INEC Server. However, the sudden postponement of the election scuttled that evil plan, but it was too late to restrain the release of the fake results, the letter read.

PETITION TO INVITE, INTERROGATE AND INVESTIGATE THE PDP LEADERSHIP OVER ITS ADMITTANCE OF ILLEGAL ACCESS TO INECS SERVER

BACKGROUND

1.It would be recalled that an Electoral (Amendment) Bill containing the provision for electronic transmission of results to INECs central computer system (otherwise called server) was sent to President Muhammadu Buhari by the National Assembly for assent late in the year 2018.

2.Despite the shortness of time before the Presidential/National Assembly Elections, and the lack of time to first simulate the process to ensure its effectiveness in a country like ours with problems of effective networks in many rural areas and constant failure of technological devices, together with its violation of the time frame of such laws as provided for in regional and continental Protocols in terms of the length of time required for the passage of such laws before any major election, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party was hell-bent that the President should sign the Bill into law. That was the first indication that the main opposition was up to something sinister regarding the electronic transmission of the results.

3.Upon the last-minute postponement of the February 16, 2019 Presidential/National Assembly Elections, the nation was shocked to see already prepared presidential elections results floating around in the cyber space just less than 24 hours after the postponed election was originally billed to hold! The fake results had details of the scores of the candidates of the major parties. Of course, the fake results gave victory to the candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, even when elections did not hold.

4.The only conclusion one can draw from the above is that the PDP had prepared those results which were to be smuggled into the INEC Server. However, the sudden postponement of the election scuttled that evil plan, but it was too late to restrain the release of the fake results.

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

5.The proper elections were held on February 23, 2019 and President Muhammadu Buhari declared the winner. Despite the approval of the elections as credible by nearly all local and international observers (except some few known PDP acolytes masquerading as local observers), the PDP cried foul and made a shocking claim: it claimed that from purported results it obtained from INECs server, it has so-called proof that its candidate won the election by about 1.6million votes!

6.Shockingly and coincidentally, this margin was about the same margin by which it also purportedly won by the fake results released just hours after the postponement of the February 16, 2019 Presidential/National Assembly Elections.

7.As if this expensive joke was not enough, the PDP and its Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, have gone ahead to file an Election Petition against the clear victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and have repeated the same outlandish claim of having access to INECs server which shows that they have some purported results at their disposal giving victory to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

8.Sirs, we wish you to note that INECs server is the back end of electronic records of INEC. This is not INECs website but its server! Although, the purported results have been conclusively shown by public engagements to be false and even ridiculous, especially as the total number of accredited voters is exactly equivalent to the purported votes of the APC and PDP candidates, this criminal claim of the PDP has revealed a few things:

(a)It is now clear that some criminally-minded PDP operatives have access to the INEC server to be able to smuggle in fake results into that server.

(b)The only means by which they could have access to the INEC server is by the criminal hacking of the server or through the criminal conspiracy of some INEC officials.

PRAYERS

The APC Presidential Campaign Council hereby prays that the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services use your good offices to investigate the hacking of and/or illegal tampering with the INEC server by the PDP. The leadership of the PDP must be invited, interrogated and investigated and those identified as perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted.

Opposition is healthy in a democracy but it is not a license for criminality and illegality. A country governed by laws cannot be blackmailed or cowed into indolence by the perceived underdog status of the opposition so as to condone such a blatant criminal claim by the PDP of having illegal access to INECs server.

We trust you will act with alacrity.

Senator Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party has emerged the new Governor of Bauchi state, polling 515,113 votes to defeat the incumbent Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress APC who scored 500,625 votes.

Bala won with 14,488 votes in another tight governorship race. Sokoto and Kano governorship races were similarly close.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that the governorship election in the state had earlier been ruled as inconclusive by INEC and March 23 fixed for re-rerun poll in Tafawa Balewa local government area and some polling units in some other local government areas of the State.

INEC later reversed itself as it ordered the collation of the results. This followed a fact-finding report by a panel led by an INEC commissioner Festus Okoye.

But Governor Abubakar challenged INECs volte-face in an Abuja High court.

The court initially ruled to stall INECs action, but on Monday, the court gave INEC the go-ahead to conclude the collation.

The Returning officer Professor Mohammed Kyari declared Bala Mohammed, a former senator and minister of the Federal Capital Territory as the winner of the election on Monday night.

Bala Mohammed having scored the highest votes and satisfied all the requirements of the law is hereby declared Winner of the Governorship election in the state, he said.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi appealed to politicians to take defeat in good faith

In any contest there will be a winner and a loser. He urged the politicians not to gloat in victory.

But the advice was not heeded by supporters of Bala Mohammed, who turned the celebration of the victory into a carnival, as they took over the popular Ahmadu Bello Way, singing Sai Kaura, drumming, blowing flutes, trumpets and saxophones and dancing to the tunes of a variety of music. Motor-cyclists joined in the revelry with acrobatic displays.

Mrs Aisha Usman said God has answered the citizens prayers.

We are celebrating the outcome of the results of the election as INEC finally declared the man of the people, Sen. Bala Muhammed the winner of the governorship race.

This is what we have been praying for and God has answered the cry of the masses, she said.

Mrs Abigail Haruna, who also joined the celebration, said the governor-elect was a good man with a high spirit of patriotism.

She said the people believed that the new governor would take care of them.

I am very happy that I am witnessing today that the change we wanted is actualised, said Mr. Ismail Raji, another Bauchi resident.

I thank God that the final result favoured the Peoples Democratic Party and Senator Bala Muhammed in particular. Bala Muhammed is the change we wanted in Bauchi state, Raji said.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Adams Oshiomhole has insisted that the governing party with majority of senators and members-elect in the 9th National Assembly would not allow the opposition to hijack strategic committees.

Oshiomhole stated this at a dinner hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari for all the partys Senators, Senators-elect and some APC state governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.

The APC chairman disclosed that the essence of the dinner was to plan on how to manage the leadership of the National Assembly to ensure that there would be no business with the opposition this time around.

He revealed that the party, with about 65 Senators-elect and 223 House of Representatives members-elect out of the 360, is in the position to make and take decisions without necessarily seeking the support of the opposition at the national assembly.

He mocked the 15 out of the 16 APC Senators that defected to other parties saying that Nigerians punished them, noting that, the one that God left was for him to entertain the house, apparently making reference to Sen. Dino Melaye.

We are far ahead of the main opposition in the parliament. 223 out of 360. We have all the numbers required to make all the laws in the National Assembly.

Only one out of 16 APC senators that decamped won election. It is the way God wants to punish them for us.

Nigerians have decided to bless us with huge majority in the National Assembly because they want a vibrant government.

God has given us the numbers to support your change government so that Nigerians especially the poor can benefit.

Those in attendance included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, governors of Kogi, Jigawa, Oyo, Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Borno, Yobe, Plateau, Osun and Lagos states.

The Senators-elect at the event included all those who had directly or indirectly indicated interest to contest for the seat of President of the Senate in the 9th National Assembly.

Prominent among the prospective contestants for the Senate leadership are Ahmed Lawan, Danjuma Goje and Ali Ndume, all from Northeast zone of the country and Abdullahi Adamu from the North Central zone.

Forty-two political parties in Kano under the aegis of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) in the state have rejected the results of the re-run governorship election of March 23.

They alledged that the process was characterised by gross irregularities.

The state CUPP chairman, Mohammed Abdullahi-Rahi, made the position of the group known while addressing a news conference in Kano on Tuesday.

He alleged that the supplementary election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was marred by violence, over voting, intimidation and voter disenfranchasement.

According to him, thuggery and voter-intimidation were reported in almost all the polling units where the re-run election wasconducted, with reports of loss of lives, open vote-buying and other electoral malpractices.

It was clear that the level of violence recorded during the March 9 election that led to cancellation of results of some polling units is by far less than what was recorded during the March 23 election, yet the electoral body turned a blind eye on the happenings by accepting and announcing the results.

We are at this juncture, debunking the illegitimate declaration of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as governor-elect in the just concluded March 23 re-run elections in Kano due to gross irregularities and electoral fraud committed before, during and after the elections.

Sen. Bola Tinubu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, says his moral authority plays a role in his ability to influence elections.

He also said that other tools that helped him influence elections were his skills as a veteran politician and dedication to campaigning and mobilizing his own party members.

Tinubu said this on Friday in Lagos while responding to an advertorial in the media, alleging that he met with the INEC Chairman to influence the Sokoto State governorship rerun election in favour of the APC.

Our attention has been drawn to a partisan advertorial in the March 21 edition of Daily Trust, entitled Inconclusive Gubernatorial Election: Sokoto People Warn Tinubu, Oshiomole, Yari, Bagudu and others.

The advertorial, placed by an organisation called the Sokoto State Coalition of PDP Supporters, bears the logo of PDP National Youth League and is signed by one Engr. Haruna Usman Shagari.

The advert made baseless allegations against myself, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, Chairman of APC, Sen. Adamu Aliero and Gov. AbdulAziz Yari of Zamfara.

It falsely alleges that I, along with the others, met the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu in order to influence the Sokoto State gubernatorial rerun election in favour of the APC.

These allegations by a contrived PDP organ are desperate untruths without a basis in fact. But they are entirely in line with the delusional reactions of PDP to their loss in the presidential elections, he said.

Tinubu said that he had Always been at the forefront of the struggle for electoral reform which culminated in the establishment of the Uwais Commission by late President Umaru Yaradua.

A prominent member of that panel, Prof Attahiru Jega later became the INEC Chairman and was able to implement the far-reaching reforms that have enabled us to have the free and fair elections that we witnessed in 2015 and now in 2019.

If I were such a prominent supporter of electoral reforms, why wilI I now be among those trying to subvert democracy?

My only tools for influencing elections are my moral authority, my skills as a veteran politician, and dedication to campaigning and mobilising my own party members, he said.

Tinubu urged the PDP in Sokoto state to desist from using his name to defraud the people or as a way to gain sympathy.

With respect to Sokoto, former Gov. Aliyu Wamakko is a popular figure and leader who has the respect of the people of the state.

It is also clear that the APC candidate is more qualified and more committed to the welfare of the people than his PDP opponent.

By his panicked responses, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has shown his sheer desperation, fears that his political career is crumbling. If he loses this election, he has lost everything.

Thus there is no untruth he will not tell and no tactic too extreme in order to hold on to his seat. However, he should not use my name to defraud the people or as a way to gain sympathy.

Instead, Tambuwal should face the consequences of his own actions. It is Tambuwal, who has caused his own predicament. The people know that Tambuwal has sacrificed their interests to advance his own.

He can try whatever propaganda and untruths he wants, but in the end, the people will render the verdict that his selfish and unproductive record deserves, tinubu said.
