A Georgia fisherman broke a state record with his 14-foot alligator catch.

Derrick Snelson was fishing on Lake Eufaula in Quitman Count, Georgia, this month when the alligator latched on to his pole. He didn't realize, however, how massive the reptile was until he and five other fishermen managed to wrangle it on the boat.

“It was just unbelievable. I really can't describe it. You need to see it,” Snelson told ABC Atlanta affiliate WSB-TV.

“We'll have it 'life-size' mounted. I guess I'll have to build a house around it. It's going to be a monster laying on the living room floor for a while,” he said.

The previous record for largest alligator caught was a 13-foot reptile in 2013, according to Georgia Outdoor News.

The hunting season for alligators in Georgia runs from August to October this year, according to the state’s department of natural resources.

Anyone with a valid hunting license can participate but there is a one-bag limit.

Hong Kong police fired tear gas and nonlethal bullets at anti-government protesters on Sunday evening as demonstrations escalated across the city following a peaceful march to the U.S. consulate that drew thousands of residents.

Nonlethal shots were fired at protesters without warning after around 100 gathered at Mong Kok police station in the area of Kowloon, chanting that police were gangsters.

Riot police soon appeared on the scene as protesters melted into side streets.

Protesters have gathered near the police building every night for the past week, leaving funeral offerings at an adjacent subway station entrance where residents widely believe someone was killed when police cleared the station at a demonstration last week.

On Sunday, many continued to burn paper money and light candle sand incense even as protesters built barricades nearby and police warned protesters via loudspeaker to stand down.

Earlier rounds of tear gas were fired off in Causeway Bay, a shopping district across the harbour on Hong Kong Island, where protesters had gathered by the thousands following the U.S. consulate march.

As they walked, many built barricades and lit trash cans on fire in a bid to slow down police.

Most, however, had left by the time riot police arrived, leaving them to gas mostly journalists and bystanders who shouted at officers.

Several arrests were also made as dozens of officers surroundedsmall groups of suspected protesters.

Riot police were stationed across the city for most of Sunday including subway stations near where demonstrations were expected to occur, cutting off avenues of escape for protesters who were forced to change clothes and leave on foot in a bid to avoid arrest.

Earlier on Sunday, tens of thousands of Hong Kong residents marched to the U.S. consulate in the afternoon as part of a police-approved march to deliver a petition asking the U.S. Congress to sign a bill containing punitive measures for officials found to have suppressed basic freedoms.

We hope the U.S. government can pass the act so Hong Kongs autonomy can be maintained.

I think the ultimate goal is to let Hong Kong be Hong Kong, said Wendy, an accountant taking part in the protest.

Protesters carried U.S. flags and signs in English like Resist Beijing, liberate Hong Kong and Sanctions against those [who] trample freedom, justice and humanity as they marched through the hilly streets of central Hong Kong island.

Many chanted slogans like Five demands, not one less and held up their hands displaying five fingers in a call for leader Carrie Lam to meet all of their demands.

Others sang the U.S. national anthem as they marched below the sprawling diplomatic complex under the watchful eye of scores of riot police stationed along the way, drawing the ire of many protesters who shouted that they were gangsters in Cantonese.

Lam formally withdrew an extradition bill earlier this week that was the trigger for the start of the protests three months ago, but the move has failed to quell the demonstrations.

The bill would have amended Hong Kong law to allow for residents to be extradited to mainland China.

Since protests began on June 9, they have escalated into a mass anti-government demonstration with demands including calls for electoral reform.

Protesters have said they will continue to demonstrate until all of their demands are met.

The focus of Sundays rally was the handing over of a petition calling for U.S. legislators to sign off on the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.

The act due to be debated at committee level in Congress would allow the U.S. the revoke the visa or freeze assets of Hong Kong residents who were found to have harmed human rights in the semi-autonomous Chinese city.

Protester Steve Nipsaid many in Hong Kong felt there was no one else to hold the citys leadership accountable as they are rubber-stamped by Beijing.

He and others were also angry that Lam has failed to set up an independent commission reviewing police violence during the protests.

Lam has instead said actions will be reviewed by an existing police committee.

Nip said police had behaved in an inhumane manner when they arrested protesters but were now accountable to no one.

Hong Kong is a former British colony that returned to Chinese sovereignty in 1997.

The governors of Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara States have jointly signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Governor of Maradi region in Niger Republic on best approaches to addressing the security challenges in their states.

This was contained in a statement issued by Yusuf Idris, the Director-General, Press Affairs to the governor of Zamfara and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Gusau.

He said that the meeting was called at the instance of the governor of Maradi region, Mallam Zakari Oumoru.

Idris added that the meeting was attended by Governors Bello Matawalle Aminu Masari and Aminu Tambuwal of Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto states, respectively.

He said that the meeting, which was held at the Government House, Maradi, dwelt on trans-border crimes, especially banditry, kidnappings and cattle rustling in the four states which share common borders.

Idris stated that the participating states agreed to maintain good neighbourliness and cooperation among themselves, while jointly addressing the issue of security.

He said that the MoU agreed to uphold the renewed efforts of the three Nigerian states and Maradi of Niger Republic in curbing the menace of armed banditry within their borders.

Other areas covered by the MoU included their resolve to join hands in the fight against banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and armed robbery within the affected borders for the purpose of having peaceful states.

In his speech at the meeting, Gov. Matawalle described peace, dialogue and reconciliation as necessary tools of curbing the insecurity situation in the four states.

He explained that his administration had adopted dialogue with bandits after very wide consultations and later created contacts with men of the underworld, which led to a joint meeting with all the groups.

The governor further said that the peace process had yielded positive results, as peace had since returned to the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that heads of security agencies, including the army, police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Directorate of State Security (DSS) in the participating states were present at the meeting. (NAN)

A housewife, Talatu, on Monday, dragged her husband Nasiru Sulaiman, before a Sharia Court ll, sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, seeking legal divorce saying she has been sexually starved for five years.

Talatu, 35, who resides in Makera, Kaduna, told the court that Sulaiman denied her sex for five years.

We have six children but he has refused to enrol them in school. I enroled them but he pulled them out, saying that I want to change their belief from his school of thoughts.

For nine months now they have not been to schoo.

The house we live in is dilapidated. It is infested by rats, He gives me only N300 to feed his seven children.

Sometimes I go out to do menial jobs to assist the family but he accuses me prostitution. I cant continue living with him. I want a divorce, she said.

The defendant, Sulaiman, denied the allegations made his wife.

When I left my wife was pregnant. When I came back, she told me that he had an abortion because she does not want to bear any child, he said.

Sulaiman admitted that he gives his wife N300 daily because he has all the foodstuffs in the house.

The Judge, Murtala Nasir, ordered both parties to settle their problems amicable.

Nasir adjourned the case until Sept. 23 for report on settlement or continuation of hearing. (NAN)

The Ijaw Elders Forum (IEF) and other collaborating bodies on Monday congratulated the leaderships of the PDP and the APC for the peaceful conduct of their primaries in Bayelsa.

They said that they were happy with the parties because the primaries were held without any reported cases of violence and bloodshed on Sept.3, 2019 and Sept. 4, 2019 respectively in Yenagoa.

The congratulatory message is contained in a press statement signed by Mr Efiye Bribena, the Secretary General of the IEF, and on behalf of other collaborating bodies.

A copy of the statement was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The statement added that it was a big plus for the two parties, their aspirants and the good people of Bayelsa that no bloodshed was recorded during the exercise.

The statement said, It is expected that this will be sustained before, during and beyond the forthcoming governorship election.

God bless the aspirants who emerged from the primaries and the people of Bayelsa State.

They also congratulated the successful aspirants that emerged as the governorship candidates of the PDP: Sen. Douye Diri and Mr Lyon David (APC) during the primaries.

We expect that they will learn from this process and conduct their campaigns in a peaceful and God-fearing manner.

As the primaries extended to the night then, a feeling of foreboding enveloped most discerning minds.

This feeling evaporated at the dawn of the day as winners emerged without any reported case of violence or blood-letting.

This is no-mean achievement for the state and it is worthy of emulation nationwide. We thank God for this, Efiye said.

The groups also expressed gratitude to the local and international observer groups for the laudable roles they played during the primaries.

It is important to thank the members of this coalition, stakeholders and collaborators as well as members of the international community who supported the push for peaceful and credible elections in Bayelsa.

While we note that there were some complaints about irregularities in the processes leading to the primaries, we are happy that peace was maintained throughout.

We strongly advise all aggrieved parties to seek redress using peaceful and legal channels available to address their complaints.

Finally, all political actors including candidates and supporters of the various parties should note that their utterances and activities are being closely monitored.

Any attempts to subvert peace and tranquility of the state will be reported to the relevant bodies for appropriate action.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Imo has solicited the collaboration of the media in the fight against drug abuse in the state.

Mr Uche Sampson, the agencys Public Relations Officer in the state, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri on Monday.

Sampson said that cooperation of the media became necessary because of the challenges the agency usually faced in tackling the menace, especially in the last quarters of the year.

He said that the command had mapped out strategies to curb drug abuse in the state between September and December.

Sampson urged the public to report suspected cases of drug abuse at the commands headquarters in Owerri and zonal offices at Okigwe, Orlu, Oguta and Aboh Mbaise.

He said: We know what the coming months look like, especially with festivities around the corner.

This is why we have laid down strategies to tackle the challenges head-on.

We commend the media for the support they have always shown and continue tocall on them to partner us in the area of public enlightenment.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, some African leaders, agriculture ministers and delegates, recently converged on Accra, Ghana, to chart a new course for agriculture in Africa.

The convergence was under the aegis of the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) 2019,with the theme, Grow Digital: Leveraging Digital Transformation to Drive Sustainable Food Systems in Africa.

The AGRF is a platform for African and global leaders from both the public and private sectors to advance policies, programmes and investments, as well as harnessing agriculture, to ensure food security, increased income and promote economic development in the continent.

Osinbajo and the other leaders at the forum shared their experiences in capturing the gains of the digital era to improve food systems.

The discourse captured how to increase adaptation, and drive innovation to achieve the goals laid out in the Malabo Declaration of the African Union (2014) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 for the year 2030.

Osinbajo, one of the discussants at the panels session, said that digital technology and its application would change the face of agriculture in Africa.

Osinbajo participated in the panel alongside host President, Nana Akufo-Addo, Edouard Ngirente, the Prime Minister of Rwanda, and AU Commissioner for Agriculture, Josefa Sacko.

The panel was moderated by former UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair.

Osinbajo said that there were many companies that were interested in agriculture as a lot of them hadalready keyedinto the agriculture space.

According to him, one of the big advantages of technology is collaboration, which is the major future of digital technology.

What we found is that there is far more collaboration than before, and there is far more transparency; you can see practically everything and anyone who is connected one way or the other, and people learn faster because of a lot of collaboration.

People online can find out what this company is doing; some companies are linking investors to farmers and it is so easy to find out what they are doing by simply going to their website.

Some of the Fintech companies are also in that space, helping to make payments; helping to do transactions and a lot of them are doing well just by building the space.

The way it is going; frankly, I cant see how it will not completely revolutionalise agriculture, because practically everywhere that digital technology has touched; is completely revolutionalised.

And I dont think we have a choice; what we are going to see is that digital technology will change the face of agriculture in Africa.

The vice president said digital technology was getting easier to manage, especially with mobile payments and mobile platforms.

He said that in Nigeria, there was huge mobile internet participation, as the country ranked high in terms of using mobile phones, for the very educated and the uneducated.

Osinbajo said the Nigerian government did a lot of cash transfer payments and payments to the most vulnerable using mobile phones.

So, I think it is actually getting easier; one of the advantages of digital technology is that if you are a digital native as they call them, you are able to learn faster.

We are looking at the application of digital technology not just in agriculture, but in our society and economy as a whole, he said.

He said that Nigeria was modernising farming through the application of digital agriculture.

On his part, Akufo-Addo said that Ghana had modernised its agriculture significantly in recent years.

We are looking at how to take advantage of the markets of the world for our agriculture.

How to penetrate the markets of the world.

Akufo-Addo said that the application of digital technology in agriculture would engender rapid economic growth, job creation and overall improvement in welfare of Africans.

He said that Africa, must, as a matter of urgency, provide adequate infrastructure for storage, mechanisation, proper storage and commercialisation.

The Ghanaian president said that Africa could not excel if did not harness its immense potential.

He expressed optimism that the digital revolution would deliver results in agriculture as Ghana recorded bumper harvest in 2018 and exported food to its neighbours.

But we believe we can do more.

The 21century provides us with an enormous opportunity to harness the benefits of the digital revolution to develop our nations agriculture.

Our vision is to embrace fully digitalisation to speed up economic development.

Thats why the theme of AGRF 2019, Grow Digital, is appropriate and excites me so much, he said.

Ngirente, in his submission, identified scarcity of fertilizer, post-harvest losses among others as challenges confronting agriculture.

He said that digitalisation was part of agriculture reforms in Rwanda.

Today, everyone who wants to invest in agriculture has internet.

We have invested heavily in managing climate and we are involving the youths in agriculture and making the sector profitable, he said.

Sacko, on her part, commended the East African countries for doing very well in digital agriculture and called on other countries to strive more in that regard.

Earlier, Dr Agnes Kalibata, President of Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), in an address, said the 2019 forum was brought to Ghana in honour of the late Kofi Annan, the founder of AGRA and architect of AGRF.

She said that the focus of the forum was on how Africa could use digital technology to leapfrog the future.

Sharing similar sentiments, Dr Strive Masiyiwa, outgoing Chairman of AGRF Partners Group, said that 25 years ago, 70 per cent of Africans never heard a telephone ringing.

Today, more than 70 per cent of our people own a telephone. It was the beginning of our digital revolution.

He explained that he began to think of seeds in the same way he thinks of telephones.

When we started, only three sub-Saharan African countries were exporting hybrid seeds, a total of 2,000 metric tonnes.

So, we began to invest money to develop seeds; it was the low-hanging fruit for us, and it was like telephones.

And today, I can report, we have over 110 companies producing seeds and 110,000 metric tonnes a year, he said.

The event attracted no fewer than 27 ministers of food and agriculture and 2,500 delegates.(NANFeatures)

Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, South Africas Defence Minister said on Monday that the attacks against foreigners in South Africa were planned by criminals and that government cant prevent it.

Mapisa-Nqakula who said this in an interview with eNCA, a local channel described South Africa as an angry nation and insisted that the government cant prevent the ongoing violence.

The reality is that we have an angry nation. Whats happening can never be prevented by any government, she said.

According to her the death of two people during a clash in Johannesburg CBD on Sunday Sept. 8, could have been avoided but that it was well orchestrated by criminal elements.

She however, said the xenophobic attacks were not politically motivated.

People are saying some heads of state decided not to attend WEF; we should be talking about why this whole thing is coinciding with the World Economic Forum, Mapisa-Nqakula said.

She said: People are saying it is xenophobic attacks but it is not the first time we have had them in the past; here, we have criminals that have read the situation and are aware that we have challenges right now.

We have talked on the issues of high rate of unemployment, of some foreign nationals who are not conducting themselves in an appropriate manner as we would expect, those breaking the bylaws of the country, and you now have criminal elements who have decided that we are going to use all of those things to find reasons to attack people.

It is unfortunate and should not happen. The reality is that we need to have a serious dialogue about what is happening and we must take responsibility. The reality is that we are an angry nation and we must talk about it.

Why are we an angry nation? Why are we so determined to collapse our project of nation building and social cohesion? We need to hold hands together between government and all state entities and the civil society and find solutions to what is happening, Mapisa-Nqakula added.

President Donald Trump targeted singer John Legend and TV/social media personality Chrissy Teigen online Sunday night after Legend was featured in MSNBC's final installment of Lester Holt's "Justice For All" series, a report about the criminal justice system.

Sunday's report included an interview with Legend discussing his organization Free America, which aims to "amplify the voices of individuals impacted by the criminal justice system and those who are working to change it," according to the official website.

Trump complained Sunday night that "people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform... came to me as a group and asked for my help," but now isn't getting any credit, seemingly referring to the First Step Act he signed into law in December, which allows prisoners to get more days removed from their sentences for good behavior.

A remarkable 2,137-year-old object - said to resemble an "iPhone" - has been dug from a grave of a young woman.

The structure is made of black gemstone jet - a type of lignite - with inlays of semi-precious stones.

It was found after the Ala-Tey necropolis, a reservoir near Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam, Russia's biggest power plant, was drained.

Experts say the deceased was a fashionable young woman who lived in the Hunnu-era (Xiongnu) in rural south Russia. It is believed she actually wore the object as a belt buckle.

"Natasha’s’ burial with a Hunnu-era (Xiongnu) iPhone remains one of the most interesting at this burial site.

"Hers was the only belt decorated with Chinese wuzhu coins which helped us to date it," said Dr Pavel Leus, who led the team of archaeologists in the summer.

Photos of the accessory capture its extraordinary turquoise and red inlays.

The buckle, around seven by three and a half inches in size, was discovered in the normally submerged "Atlantis necropolis" near the dam.

The region is Tuva, a largely mountainous sprawl of beautiful countryside - a holiday spot frequented regularly by Vladimir Putin.

Other graves of prehistoric civilisations dating from the Bronze Age to the time of Genghis Khan are located in the area.

Two more partly-mummified prehistoric fashionistas - buried with the tools of their trade - were unearthed earlier this year.

Dr Marina Kilunovskaya from the St Petersburg Institute of Material History Culture, who leads the Tuva Archeological Expedition, said: "This site is a scientific sensation.

"We are incredibly lucky to have found these burials of rich Hun nomads that were not disturbed by (ancient) grave robbers."

Scientists admit they are in a race against time to examine the sites and save priceless treasures from damage by water.

On the season premiere of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim Kardashian was facing yet another health scare.

"Lately, my wrists have started to hurt again, but it's definitely a different feeling than before. I feel this, like, in my bones," said Kardashian.

Khloé Kardashian accompanied her sister to the doctor's office, where Kardashian was told by her doctor, "The worst-case scenario is that this is the start of a systemic process, rheumatoid arthritis. But until I see some of your blood work, I won't really know."

Later in the episode, Kardashian's doctor called to tell her the results from her blood test. Kardashian was devastated to learn that her antibodies tested positive for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. However, the doctor also stated that it is possible to get false positives in the initial screenings, so he was ordering her to get ultrasound scans on her hands and joints to determine what's really going on.

"You really do get in your head and think about the worst possible things that can happen," said Kardashian. "So, for the next few days, it's gonna be really like hell living, wondering what I have, what's going on, and how to fix this."

During Sunday's premiere, Kardashian live tweeted, saying:

Unfortunately, the premiere episode did not reveal Kardashian's ultimate diagnosis, but we hope a scare is all it was.

Jennifer Lopez maintained her cool at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday night, where anti-fur protesters called her out at the "Hustlers" premiere.

In a video obtained by TMZ, protesters holding signs can be heard screaming, "Shame on you, JLo, for wearing fur! Shame on you for wearing fur Jennifer Lopez! Stop wearing fur Jennifer Lopez! Stop wearing fur JLo! Stop wearing fox fur!"

One yells that Lopez, 50, has killed "thousands of animals" by wearing fur through the years, while another shrieked that the Bronx native has "blood on her hands."

Lopez sports fur in "Hustlers" and has posted photos of herself in a fur coat from the film, but it's unclear whether it's real or faux.

She did not appear to respond to the demonstrators. She was not wearing any fur at the premiere.

It wasn't the "Dance Again" singer's only hiccup from the evening.

While waving to fans in a balcony at the premiere of the stripper-Robin Hood flick, Lopez tripped and almost fell to the level below, eliciting gasps from onlookers.

Lopez previously had a terrifying experience filming the movie, though it was a much different kind of horror.

"It's not like me being on stage with a bunch of tights and fishnets on and bodysuits," she said. "Those are sexy costumes. This is another level. You're out there naked!"

In one scene, Lopez dances in a G-string to establish her character's reputation as the Big Apple's most cunning stripper. That doesn't mean she actually felt that way at first, though.

“I was terrified,” the "Dance Again" singer confessed to Variety. “I felt exposed. I was like, ‘I’ve never done anything like this. I’m going to be up there in f---ing dental floss. What is this? Who is this person?’ "

Mavin Records producer, Don Jazzy has spoken for the first time after visiting the ‘pepper dem’ housemate earlier on Saturday.

Dr. Sid, a top member of the record label, who visited the Big Brother housemates alongside Don Jazzy, also shared his experience.

Dr Sid described the housemates as amazing people, adding that it would be hard to see anyone of them leave the house on Sunday.

We had reported on Saturday that Don Jazzy and Dr Sid paid the housemates a surprised visit.

Dr Sid tweeted, “Had a great time in the @BBNaija house today all the housemates are amazing people.

Joseph Yobo says his old club Everton is the perfect place for Nigerian compatriot Alex Iwobi to deliver on his potential.

Iwobi left Arsenal for Merseyside this summer in a £40 million ($49m) deal, and headed his first Premier League goal for his new club in the recent 3-2 win over Wolves.

The 39-year-old Yobo, who retired from football in 2014, made more than 250 appearances in all competitions during a nine-year spell at Goodison Park, and he thinks Iwobi can follow in his footsteps as he looks to carve out a successful career of his own.

"Everton is the perfect club for a brave player like Alex Iwobi and I know it's the right step to becoming a great player," Yobo told BBC Sport.

"The manager [Marco Silva] is building an amazing team and he believes so much in Alex to add him to his squad.

"Already he has started well by scoring two headed goals and it's just the beginning of bigger things to come."

Iwobi’s goal against Wolves followed another header against Lincoln City in a 4-2 Carabao Cup win – meaning he has already scored more headers for Everton than in his entire four-year spell in the Arsenal first team.

Iwobi is currently away on international duty, with Nigeria set to face Ukraine in a friendly match in Dnipro on Tuesday night. When he returns, he will be hoping to kick on from his promising early form as the Toffees face Premier League clashes away at Bournemouth and at home to Sheffield United.

As far as Yobo is concerned, Iwobi is in the ideal environment to build on the good start he has made.

"He's coming into a team full of good players, a traditional family club that is ready to back him on and off the pitch," he said.

"Mentally it must be tough to leave a club like Arsenal where it all started for him, but this is a strong statement of intent to challenge himself.

"I had a good time at Everton and I'm very pleased that he's followed in the footsteps of myself, Yakubu [Ayegbeni] and Victor Anichebe.

"With the way he plays and his creativity, Alex has a big chance to blossom, succeed and grow into a great player with Everton."

Brazil coach Tite admitted Neymar's performance in the 2-2 draw with Colombia surprised him as he revealed he has a "relationship of truth and loyalty" with the unsettled forward.

After a move from Paris Saint-Germain to Barcelona failed to materialise in the transfer window, fit-again Neymar played for the first time in three months in Brazil's friendly at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami.

He made an impact 19 minutes into the game when his corner teed up Casemiro to give Brazil the lead and, though Colombia turned the game on its head with two goals in nine first-half minutes, Neymar side-footed an equaliser into the net after the break.

Tite said he considered substituting the 27-year-old but instead allowed him to play the full 90 minutes, having been impressed with Neymar's display.

"I said, 'I'll take him off' for the sake of physical preservation," Tite told reporters after the game.

"But I saw that his physical responses were strong, intense, and coordinated. I could see him growing.

"As the end of the game approached he produced more and more. He keeps his technique light and creates space. He was above my expectation."

PSG coach Thomas Tuchel has yet to include Neymar in any of his four matchday squads in Ligue 1 this season, but Tite gave a glowing assessment of the forward's condition.

"We talked yesterday about monitoring the performance of Neymar from 45 minutes," he said. "A player starts thinking and cannot perform [when fatigued]. But he was thinking and performing. It surprised me."

After scoring Brazil's second goal, Neymar wrapped his arms around the Brazil coach, who said the pair enjoy a strong working relationship at a time when the forward's career is in a tumultuous phase.

"It is a reaction of true loyalty," said Tite. "We have a relationship of truth and loyalty. We say what we think is right, what is wrong.

"It is a transparent relationship. I don't analyse other facts, other situations. But I can say that we have a real relationship."

Nigeria and Iran are going to the Olympics. China's World Cup run came to a disappointing end. And Serbia is unbeaten no more, making a third consecutive meeting with the U.S. in a gold-medal game now unlikely.

Nigeria clinched the Olympic berth that goes to the top African finisher in the World Cup by beating China 86-73 on Sunday. It's the third straight Olympic trip for Nigeria.

"Right now, we kind of feel like it's the golden age of Nigerian basketball," said Ike Diogu — one of five NBA players on his country's World Cup roster.

Nigeria's victory over China also meant the hosts would not earn the berth going to the top Asian finisher. Instead, that goes to Iran after it beat the Philippines 95-75. China will have to go through a qualifying tournament next summer.

"Unbelievable," Iran forward Michael Rostampour said. "The highs and lows of this World Cup are just ridiculous. ... This is a great day to be an Iranian."

Serbia lost to Spain 81-69 in a matchup of teams that came into Sunday night with 4-0 records. Serbia will now face unbeaten Argentina in the quarterfinals at Dongguan, China, on Tuesday — with the winner there likely being in the same bracket with the U.S. in the semifinals.

Spain will head to Shanghai for a quarterfinal game with Poland, which lost to Argentina earlier Sunday 91-65.

SPAIN 81, SERBIA 69

Spain was down by nine early before taking control in a game where Serbian star Nikola Jokic was ejected after picking up two technical fouls in the third quarter.

Ricky Rubio scored 19, Victor Claver had 14 and Marc Gasol added 11 for Spain (5-0). Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Serbia (4-1), which was held to 34.3 points below its average from the first four games of the tournament.

The Serbs lost gold-medal games to the U.S. at the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics. If they see the U.S. again in this tournament, it'll likely be in Friday's semifinals — provided both teams advance.

ARGENTINA 91, POLAND 65

Luis Scola was brilliant again for Argentina (5-0), scoring 21 points. A.J. Slaughter scored 16 points for Poland (4-1), which shot 38% and committed 23 turnovers.

ITALY 94, PUERTO RICO 89, OT

Marco Belinelli scored 27 points and Danilo Gallinari scored 22 as Italy (3-2) rallied from a 26-point third-quarter deficit, putting together a 42-9 run and then holding on in overtime. Renaldo Balkman scored 14 points and Angel Rodriguez scored 13 for Puerto Rico (2-3).

RUSSIA 69, VENEZUELA 60

Andrey Vorontsevich led Russia (3-2) with 17 points. Michael Carrera had a game-high 19 for Venezuela (2-3).

SETTING THE FIELD

The last quarterfinal spots for the World Cup could come down to a tiebreaker.

That's not good news for Greece.

Winning a second-round finale against the Czech Republic won't be enough for the team led by NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo — it'll have to win by 12 or more points to have any chance of reaching the quarterfinals. Point differentials could come into play if there are ties in the standings, and that likelihood complicates matters not just for Greece but for Brazil as well.

"In the end, every point matters," Czech Republic guard Tomas Satoransky of the Chicago Bulls said.

There are two quarterfinal spots left that will be decided Monday in Shenzhen among the U.S. (4-0), the Czech Republic (3-1), Brazil (3-1) and Greece (2-2).

The U.S. is in total control of the race for one quarterfinal spot — the only scenario where the Americans would not advance is if the Czech Republic beats Greece and if Brazil then tops the U.S. by at least 22 points.

So it's reasonable to think the Americans will be headed to the quarterfinals.

The U.S. has had NBA players making up the roster for 201 international games since 1992. The Americans are 192-9 in those contests, and none of the nine losses was of the 22-point-or-worse variety.

"I said after our game that it doesn't matter if we lost by one or by 22," NBA veteran and longtime Brazil standout Anderson Varejao said after his team lost to the Czechs by 22 on Saturday. "But no — it does matter because of the tiebreaker. During the game, you're not always thinking about that even though you need to keep the score as close as you can."

Satoransky said the point margin was very much on the minds of the Czechs as they pulled away from Brazil on Saturday.

"Thank God we kept scoring at the end," Satoransky said. "It's always a factor. We knew it and we told players to play until the end defensively, try to run and score offensively. It all matters."

The scenarios:

U.S. — Advances with a win over Brazil, or a loss to Brazil by no more than 21 points, or a Greece win over the Czech Republic.

Czech Republic — A win over Greece gets it to the quarterfinals. It could still qualify with a loss, provided both the loss is by no more than 11 points and the U.S. defeats Brazil.

Brazil — A win over the U.S. by at least 22 points assures it of a quarterfinal spot. If it beats the U.S. by fewer than 22, it would still advance if Greece beats the Czechs. Brazil cannot advance with a loss.

Greece — A win over the Czechs by at least 12 points, combined with a U.S. win over Brazil, is the only scenario where the Greeks advance.
