The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday postponed the planned cross border secondary listing of 3,758,151,504 ordinary shares of Airtel Africa.

The Exchange, in a mail, said that the postponement was necessitated by the need to ensure that the company met all the post NSE approval pre-requisites for listing on NSE.

“NSE will provide further communication on this issue when all the conditions for the listing in its market have been met,” NSE said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Airtel Africa listing was earlier scheduled to hold on July 5, with the listing of 3.76bn shares at N363 per share.

NAN also gathers that the company has not completed documentation with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the commission to approve its application for listing.

A source close to the transaction told NAN that the company “has not completed its documentation.”

“They are still running helter-skelter to complete their documentation.

“Until that is done, the SEC cannot approve. So, the ball is in their court,” the source said.

NAN reports that on June 18, Airtel Africa officially filed an application with the SEC for listing of its shares on the NSE. (NAN)

The Coalition of Public Interests Lawyers and Advocates (COPA) on Monday urged Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, to surrender himself for investigation having stepped down from the pulpit as senior pastor of the church.

Fatoyinbo had been the subject of discussion since last week after Mrs Busola Dakolo, wife of inspiration singer Timi Dakolo accused him of raping her when she was 17 years.

He stepped down on Monday but still insisted that he had never raped anyone before, ‘not even as an unbeliever’. The allegation had elicited reactions from Nigerians including those in the presidency.

However, Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi, Convener of COPA, in a statement issued on Monday commended Pastor Fatoyinbo for stepping down as senior pastor in COZA but urged him to take it a step further by reporting to the police for investigation.

“We at COPA are of the mind that while the above is a good way to start that Mr Biodun Fatoyinbo must take a step further in the interest of addressing and assuaging public interest by reporting to the Nigeria Police Force voluntary, a truly neutral arbiter in this instance, to provide answers to public queries on the matter.

“This is in view of making sure that the results of the investigations from both the church committee and the Police Force, being independent sources, would satisfactorily put to rest all sundry issues generated by the intense rape allegations hanging over him.

“A man of clear conscience fears nothing and we hope that it would never come to the point where Mr. Biodun Fatoyinbo is compelled beyond personal alacrity to do the needful and submit self to the Police Force for questioning.

“Needless to say that his status as a popular man of God and the issue of betrayal of fiduciary trust, infidelity and the crime of rape makes it imperative that no room is left for doubt to exist on his innocence of the claims against him.

“Conversely, by voluntarily submitting himself to the Police Force for questioning, he makes a much needed statement in lieu of his claims to innocence.

“It also affords the public the opportunity to pursue further actions where it is established that he may in fact have criminal issues to answer to or not.

Olajengbesi stated that COPA would continue to monitor events as they unfold to ensure that no rights are abused, nor any process skewered to favor one party against the other in this matter.

The COPA Convener while urging the pastor not to slack in establishing his innocence noted that where justice must be done, it must be manifestly seen to be done.

Biodun Fatoyinbo, the senior pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), has stepped down from the pulpit and as the senior pastor of the church.

In a statement released on Monday on his Instagram handle, he said the move was due to the advise of his mentors.

Fatoyinbo who had been in the news since Friday was accused by Busola Dakolo, a celebrity photographer and wife of Timi Dakolo, Nigerian musician, of raping her when she was almost 17.

He however denied the allegations stressing that he had never raped anyone before, ‘not even as an unbeliever’

“I have taken time to pray and seek spiritual counsel from Christian leaders around the world who feel very concerned about the ongoing reports in the media,” the statement read.

“I have solicited their guidance on actions I should take that is honouring to our Lord Jesus Christ and the work he has called me to do.

“Drawing from their counsel and that of the leadership of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly and owing to my love for God’s work and the sacred honour of my calling, I have decided to take a leave of absence from the pulpit of the church.

“This step enables me to submit to the concerns of my spiritual mentors as they consider all the issues that have been raised against me.

“Though I do not understand all that is happening, I trust the Lord to lead and guide me one step at a time.”

Reacting to the allegations last week, the office of the Senior Pastor in a public notice wrote: “We will also not stand for false criminal allegations made against me or the church. The leadership of the Church and l have briefed our lawyers to commence Criminal and Civil actions against all individuals making such false allegations whether directly or by proxies.

“We will as a church pursue every measure within the ambits of the law to bring the culprits to justice.

“We have heard and we will not be surprised to see more of such allegations by people who have been paid to continue in this line of blackmail, harassment and extortion including those who may have been dismissed from their duties in the church on disciplinary grounds,” he said.

Nigerian National Committee Annual United World Colleges Scholarship 2020

UWC is a unique organisation. It is the only global educational NGO that brings students together from all over the world, selected from within their own countries, on merit and regardless of their ability to pay. These students come together at one of seventeen UWC schools and colleges that aim to foster international peace and understanding.

The Nigerian National Committee for the United World Colleges (UWC) invites applications from suitably qualified Nigerian candidates for a limited number of needs based scholarship awards and fee paying places in some UWCs.

The colleges prepare students for a two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Certificate.

Sanchez scores as Chile beat Japan in Copa America
Chile began their Copa America defence in emphatic fashion with a thumping 4-0 win over tournament guests Japan on Monday with Manchester United misfit Alexis Sanchez scoring for the first time in five months.

The 2015 and 2016 Copa champions took the lead late in the first half with a towering header from midfielder Erick Pulgar.

Journeyman striker Eduardo Vargas then continued his remarkable consistency for his country by scoring at a fourth consecutive major tournament and doubling Chiles lead in the 54th minute with the help of a deflection.

Sanchez made it 3-0 with a diving header from close range in the 82nd minute, Chiles all-time top scorer punching the air in delight after enduring a frustrating season with United compounded by a knee injury suffered in March.

Hammond, UK finance minister to resign over Mays spending
UK Finance Minister

British finance minister Philip Hammond is prepared to resign over Prime Minister Theresa Mays legacy spending plans, ITV said on Tuesday, citing the Press Association.

Senior government sources told the Press Association that tension between officials at the Treasury and the prime ministers office had reached boiling point over Mays spending intentions, according to ITV.

Mays intention to spend up to 9 billion pounds (.3 billion) each year on education over three years, including plans to build new schools and pay teachers higher wages have sparked tension, it said, citing a well-placed source.

Mays chancellor, Hammond opposes those plans and is prepared to resign, in what would be an extraordinary move just weeks before the PM leaves office, it added.

The British government is understood to be asking Hammond to free up money from the 26.6-billion-pound war chest he set aside in case of a no-deal Brexit to fund the plans, according to the report.

Theresa May resigned as the Conservative partys leader on June 7 but said she would stay on as prime minister until the leadership contest was concluded.

Boris Johnson, a former London mayor and foreign minister, is way out in front in the race to become party leader and despite so far deciding to steer clear of debates with his rivals, his popularity has yet to be dented.

Abia primary school teachers, NUT end 3 months strike

This followed agreement reached on Monday by the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), suspending the three-month old statewide strike.

The Head Mistress of Tenant Road Primary School, Mrs Onyekachi Uka, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the teachers agreed to return to classes in a meeting of NUT held at the Constitution Crescent Primary School, Aba.

The teachers have agreed to return to classes on Tuesday, June 18, because the state government promised to meet NUT leaders to discuss how their arrears will be paid, she said.

NAN reports that the teachers embarked on strike in April to press home their demand for the payment of 10 months salary arrears and implementation of their Teachers Salary Scale (TSS).

Other demands included the payment of the outstanding promotion and leave allowances by the state government.

Before Mondays meeting, the teachers had defied an earlier order by the NUT for them to resume work.

A NAN correspondent, who visited some of the schools in Aba metropolis, reports that some pupils reported to school in line with the NUT announcement in some sections of the local media.

Teachers were however no where to be seen in all the schools visited.

A teacher told NAN on the condition of anonymity that teachers cannot return to classes unless their demands were met.

She said that the state government entered into an agreement with the teachers about two years ago but reneged on its promise.

At Umuode Community Primary school in Osisioma Local Government Area, few pupils were seen playing in the compound but the schools staff rooms were under lock and key.

Also at the Okigwe Road Primary Schools I and II in Aba South Local Government Area, some pupils were also seen but teachers were visibly absent.

NAN also reports that both the teachers and pupils of Cameroon Barracks Primary School were absent.
