This group is for Nigerian Agile evangelists, thought leaders, enthusiasts, and inquiring minds wanting to connect and learn about all things Agile, Scrum, eXtreme Programming (XP), Lean and Kanban.

Meetings are held monthly and are mainly discussions, workshops, or open space type sessions covering various topics about Agile and Scrum. No fewer than 60,000 candidates on Saturday sat for Computer Based Test (CBT) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) recruitment exercise in the country.

Mr Isaiah Inuwa, Chief Operating Officer Corporate Services, disclosed this to newsmen while monitoring some of the CBT centres in Abuja.

He said that the exam was ongoing in about 94 centers in 22 states.

“This is fantastic, you can see everything is going on well. We have two centres here and you see the orderly way people are being screened for accreditation.

“What you see here is on going in about 94 centres in 22 states across the federation.

“This is another way the corporation is showing transparency in carrying out its activities and this has also given Nigerians the opportunity to hold their leaders accountable.

“All the candidates are scheduled with time. Some 8am, some 9am and the questions are not the same because they are computer generated,” he said.

He said that the corporation in collaboration with some instituition worked together to ensure the success of the programme.

NAN observed that at the various centres while some had finished the test, others were awaiting and some were being accredited.

Some of the the candidates who spoke to NAN said that the process had been transparent so far.

Mr Nkwouh Charles, a candidate at Sanscon International School center in Maitama said: “The process was smooth, we were identified and given accreditation. There was no confusion here and they started in good time.

“I wrote for graduate category and I am just coming out from the exam hall. I am very hopeful,” he said.

Mr Abraham Joshua, at JC Best International School centre Life camp, said that apart from not starting in good time, acreditation was fast and okay.

“I commended the NNPC for this, this is the first time I have been invited for an interview since I have been applying for jobs.

“I do not know anybody but short listing me in the first place gave me hope that this process will work.

“I believe that since I have gotten to this stage that I will be successful. I am very hopeful,” he added.

But Mr Tunji Ade at the same centre who was supposed to write at 10am but as at 11.30am had not gotten acredidattion frowned at the delay.

“Nobody had told us anything but I learnt that they did not start early here.

“I will wait until it is my turn but I am not happy with the delay in time,” he said.

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) says it is set to hold the May diet of the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) for teachers nationwide between June 7 and 8.

The Registrar of the council, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, said this during a world news briefing in Abuja on Friday.

Ajiboye said that no fewer than 30,000 prospective teachers would write the computer-based examination in 50 centres nationwide.

About 30,000 would-be teachers across the states of the federation and the FCT have registered for the examination.

The examination would hold on Saturday, June 8 in all the states of the federation and the FCT except in states like Bauchi, Kaduna and Kano where the examination will start on Friday, June 7 because of the large number of candidates.

Our technical officers are being prepared and have been trained in preparation for the examination.

The examination, which was supposed to hold in May, was shifted from May 25 and 26 because of the National Environmental Sanitation Exercise, he said.

Ajiboye said the PQE had become one of the benchmark processes for registering professional teachers in Nigeria.

He said the PQE was introduced in October 2017 and the May 2019 diet was the fourth in the series.

The TRCN boss said one of the aims of the examination was to get the teachers prepared technologically in the 21st century.

Yes, it has provided a big experience for us because when we started, many people who took the exam were not computer literate, and that accounted for the large number of failure in the first exam in 2017.

But progressively, teachers now know that since it is a CBT exam, they have to go for computer appreciation programme, and the result over the years have been improving, he said.

He further said that the council recorded not less than 83 per cent pass nationwide in the last examination in 2018.

Ajiboye, however, said there was state by state disparity when the results were examined.

He said external people would serve as monitors and supervisors, including members of the governing council of TRCN, staff of the Ministry of Education, National Teachers Institute and National Commission for Colleges of Education.

Ajiboye reiterated that the deadline for flushing out unqualified teachers from the classroom remains Dec. 31, 2019.

According to him, the believe in the deadline has made the council to record an increase in the number of people going to take the May diet of the PQE .

In the first PQE, we had like 16,000 candidates. In October 2018, we had 22,000; this year we have recorded the highest number.

Presently, we have registered about 30,000 candidates.

By January 2020, we are going to begin our enforcement and we may likely start from the private schools because our mandate covers both the public and private schools.

We have more than 80 per cent compliance from public schools, but the major problem we have is the private schools.

However, we are still appealing to all teachers to key into this directive, he said.

NAN reports that the National Council on Education gave December 2019 as the deadline for any teacher who is not qualified, registered and licensed by TRCN to beremoved from the classroom.

A total of 557,083,712 electronic-payment transactions valued at N34.02 trillion were recorded in selected banks across the country in the first quarter, 2019, Nigerias statistics bureau has said.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said this in a report on Selected Banking Sector Data: Sectorial Breakdown of Credit, ePayment Channels and Staff Strength data posted on its website.

It said Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) Instant Payment (NIP) transactions dominated the volume of transactions recorded with 232,816,102 volume of NIP transactions valued at N24.17 trillion were recorded within the period under review.

It, however, said that in terms of credit to the private sector, the total value of credit allocated by the banks stood at N15.21 trillion as at first quarter 2019.

It said the Oil and Gas and Manufacturing sectors got credit allocation of N3.49 trillion and N2.23 trillion respectively to record the highest credit allocation as at the period under review.

Also, the total number of staffers of the banks increased by 0.33 per cent quarter-on-quarter from 104,669 in fourth quarter, 2018 to 105,017 in first quarter, 2019.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) says it will support countries of the Sahel region, particularly Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon, by building their defence and security forces to counter terrorism and combat organised crime.

In a communique on Saturday at the end of the 14th Islamic Summit Conference held at Makkah, Saudi Arabia, OIC called on member states to support the G-5 Sahel countries in their efforts to fight terrorism and ensure development.

The conference also expressed its full solidarity with Lake Chad Basin countries, namely Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad, which had continue to face grave security challenges and vicious insurgency arising from the violent Boko Haram extremism and terrorism.

The conference also requested the Council of Foreign Ministers to upgrade the OIC regional humanitarian office in Niamey to a regional representative mission to mobilize political commitment and undertake development and humanitarian activities.

It called on its members and institutions, including the Islamic Development (IsDB) and Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF), to support Comoros, the Republic of Guinea, Cot dIvoire and Sierra Leone in their development programmes with a view to achieve sustainable developments.

The OIC also affirmed its commitment to supporting the stability, unity and territorial integrity of Libya and expressed utmost concern for the continuing military operations around the Libyan capital Tripoli.

It called on all concerned parties in Libya to cease fire immediately to spare citizens lives as the escalation of the conflict constituted a threat to international peace and security and to Libyas stability, and increases the mounting danger of terrorism throughout the country.

The conference affirmed the need for all concerned parties in Libya to commit to the supreme interest of the country and to spare its people further suffering and the woes of the war.

It also stressed the need for them to return to the political process under the political agreement concluded under the auspices of the UN in order to find a comprehensive settlement through national reconciliation on a consensual basis.

While noting with satisfaction the steady progress being made by the government of Somalia (FGS) under President Mohamed Abdullahi and reiterated its full support for the peace building endeavours of the FGS, the conference commended the role of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdelaziz Al Saud and his crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its support towards ensuring food security and rural development in the country.

Buhari gave the commendation on Saturday in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, at the opening of the 14th, Summit of the OIC hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The president particularly applauded the robust interventions of various OIC institutions, like the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group, which had been effective in key sectors as trade and investment, agriculture, rural development and food security.

He said: For instance, we in Nigeria appreciate the Banks support for our National Food Security Programme and the various roads, school rehabilitation projects and the Second Niger Bridge.

I am confident that the continued support of our multilateral partners, notably the OIC and the IDB Group, would be most needed as we seek to redouble our efforts in the next phase for the realization of rapid socio-economic development in Nigeria and the continent at large.

In the cultural field, we acknowledge the importance of the OIC programmes, aimed at combating Islamophobia and the defamation of religions.

We are convinced that the values of tolerance and moderation should continue to guide our actions as we collectively seek to promote global harmony, peace and security.

He maintained that the shrinking had cause severe economic deprivation, fuelled illegal migration to Europe, the displacement of communities and radicalization of youth, forcing them to join the Boko Haram terrorist group.

In this connection, we welcome the various interventions under the Special Programme for the Development of Africa, the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development and the recent approved Science and Technology Fund, among others.

We urge them to do more as their contributions towards poverty alleviation and peace building, he added.

President Buhari also lauded the OIC for its engagement of the Islamic Development Bank Group in the implementation of national development projects in Africa.

The President who acknowledged the intervention of the OIC in the field of science, technology and innovation, poverty alleviation as well as women and youth empowerment, also stressed the significance of the OIC Science and Technology Agenda 2026.

According to the President, science, technology and innovation as well as information and communication technologies are crucial to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals and OIC 2025 Programme of Action.

He, therefore, reiterated the determination and commitment of Nigeria to supporting collaborative research programmes on science and technology.

President Buhari affirmed the African Groups commitment to engage and cooperate with all Member States towards the success of the 14th OIC summit.

The Nigerian leader expressed appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the elaborate arrangements made for the success of the summit.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Computer Based Test (CBT) recruitment exercise on Saturday was delayed due to technical problems from the JAMB-approved centre in Kuje.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise was scheduled to commence at the Islamic Leadership Academy at 8:00 a.m.

The JAMB and NNPC officials began the screening exercise for candidates at 7:00 a.m.

However, the examination could not start at the centre because more than half of the systems were not responding and some were not coming up at all.

Addressing the candidates after an hour of waiting, an NNPC official pleaded with candidates to exercise patience until the problems was resolved.

He said that the technical problems were not from NNPC nor JAMB, stating that the challenge was from the centre.

I will implore us to exercise some patience. I am an official from NNPC, we have been here since yesterday with officials from JAMB to ensure that everything was okay with the systems.

In the early hours of this morning, all these systems were coming on and everything was okay but all of the sudden when the light went off, some of the system are not coming up again.

Its better that is happening now, not when the exam has already started. But I want to assure you that this exam will definitely hold. The JAMB officials have contacted their office and we are hoping to get a feedback soon, he said.

Mr Adamu Usman, one of the candidates, said that JAMB centres nationwide also had such technical problems.

He said that the problem was not new to the centre because during the JAMB examination, alot of the students had to write in batches because most of the systems malfunctioned.

Former Arsenal and Sevilla winger Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a car accident at the age of 35.

The Spaniards former club Sevilla have confirmed that the 35-year-old and his cousins, Jonathan and Manuel Calderon, were killed in the collision.

The EFE agency in Spain reports that the accident took place in Seville at 11.40am local time and that his car went off the road and caught fire.

Sevilla would later confirm that the former Spain internationals cousins Jonathan Reyes and Manuel Calderon were also killed in the collision.

Reyes left the Liga club in 2016 but was a popular figure over two spells with the Andalusians. He also played for Arsenal between 2004 and 2007, scoring 23 goals in all competitions for the Gunners and winning the Premier League and FA Cup.

Most recently, he had been playing for Extremadura UD in the second division in Spain after joining in January following a brief stint in China.

Confirming the tragic news, Sevilla tweeted on Saturday: We could not offer worse news. Our beloved squad member Jos Antonio Reyes died in a traffic accident. Rest in peace.

Arsenal also took to Twitter to express their shock and sadness at the news: Everyone at Arsenal is devastated by the shocking news that our former player Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision in Spain.

Jose Antonio Reyes: 1983-2019. Rest in peace, Jose.
