Do you eat dinner late at night and go to bed less than three hours later? You know the old adage that eating a late dinner will make you gain weight? Well, it is true but there are more reasons not to eat late.

Late night eating has been discouraged for the longest time. However, there have been people who argue that it does not matter what time of the day you eat as long as you eat healthy. Eating too close to bedtime can actually cause indigestion and heartburn, and make you more restless during the night. Research has found that the digestive process can have serious implications on your sleep cycle, causing you to wake up more often, and have a harder time falling asleep in the first place.
One of the most important reasons why you should avoid eating late at night is due to the possible risk of weight gain associated with this habit. People who are trying to lose weight should avoid eating at least two hours before they go to bed. If you must have something to snack on in the evening, consider choosing fruits, vegetables or other products which are low in fat and calories.
One last reason why you may want to avoid eating late at night is that doing so may increase the number of times that you need to get up to use the restroom during the night. Eating late at night will result in food being digested during your sleeping hours,and because of this, you may need to wake up to eliminate the waste products. If you are really hungry late at night, consider eating foods with high amounts of fiber, such as whole grains. These products take a long time to digest, and won’t need to be excreted for at least eight hours.
There you have it, avoid eating late at night or just before bed as the consequences are dangerous to our bodies.

Corruption in Nigeria is endemic and as expected, has done more harm to Nigeria’s growth and development than good.

While the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, has long identified corruption as one of the issues bedeviling Nigeria, the current war against corruption is dead on arrival if certain key and far-reaching decisions are not taken to win the war.

President Buhari has not hidden his disdain for corrupt acts and has gone after alleged corrupt past government officials

Before now, many analysts in Nigeria have called for the review of the 1999 constitution which in many ways shields those in government in various ways even when acts of corruption are committed by public officials.

According to Nigeria’s former ambassador to Switzerland, Dr Humphrey Orjiako, certain constitutional provisions and statutory practices stall Nigeria’s nation-growth and reinforce the proclivity towards dissension.
1. Immunity Clause

It is a legacy of dubious value from three decades of authoritarian military rule which has unfortunately been adopted by democratic forces since 1999. The immunity provision protects and shields from prosecution elected executive officials who deliberately use their office to commit acts of corruption, pre-assured of no consequence for their actions.

2. Security Vote

A constitutional provision that enables the president or any state governor to disburse humongous sums of public money without any form of scrutiny, oversight or accountability even from the legislative arms of government. Presidents and governors in successive Nigerian governments at the state and federal level have continuously taken advantage of this to dip their hands into public purse for private gains.

3. Weak Institutions

In a speech delivered by outgoing US president Barrack Obama in 2013, he stated that Africa needs strong institutions and not strong men. Indeed, this is the bane of most African countries including Nigeria, where public officials are like tin gods and continually weaken institutions either by acts of omission of commission in order for their impunity to continue unabated. Many have used the advantage to line their pockets and leave democratic institutions begging for reform.

4. Secrecy in government

A perfect example is the security vote stated above. Despite the passage of the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill in 2013, openness, transparency and accountability requirements in public institutions are almost going into extinction. The conspiracy of government secrets and self-assessment in Nigerian bureaucracies has made it easy for government officials to dip their hands into public funds without query from any quarters

Immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday said it was impossible for the National Security Adviser (NSA) during his administration to have stolen $2.2 billion.

While speaking at the famous Oxford Union in United Kingdom on the subject of promoting youth entrepreneurship, former president, Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, said it was impossible for Sambo Dasuki, the National Security Adviser (NSA) during his administration, to steal $2.2 billion as claimed by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

According to a report by Premium Times, Jonathan disclosed that it was “not just possible” for Dasuki to steal $2.2 billion after his administration procured several equipment for the country’s military.

“They said the National Security Adviser stole $2.2billion. I don’t believe somebody can just steal $2.2 billion. We bought warships, we bought aircraft, we bought lots of weapons for the army and so on and so forth and you are still saying 2.2 billion, so where did we get the money to buy all those things?” he asked while responding to a question about the alleged missing arms procurement fund now referred to a Dasukigate by the Nigerian media.

While admitting that corruption was an issue during his administration, the former president said that some of the allegations have been “exaggerated”.

“Yes, there were some issues; yes, there are still corruption issues; but some of it were blown, I’d say exaggerated, and they give a very bad impression about our nation. You cannot say the national security adviser stole $2.2billion. It is not just possible,” he said.

The immediate past president however, said that as some of the corruption cases are still in court, he would rather allow the legal processes to reveal the facts of the matter and that he doesn’t want to appear as challenging the incumbent government.

“One thing about the issue of corruption is that these matter are in court, let’s allow some of these processes to end. Lately some judges’ (homes) were also invaded. There are so many things involved and we have to follow up these matters to conclusion before we know the fact.

“I don’t want to be seen as a former president challenging what the sitting government is doing so I have decided to keep quiet for the court to look into them,” he said.

He said that allegations of corruption were not unique to his administration, adding that governments have been overthrown in the past because they were accused of being corrupt only for the new administration itself be pushed out of power by another junta touting the anti-corruption mantra.

“You will see that it has become a major topic whenever there is a change of government,” he said, and further argued that corruption is a global problem but the perception of corruption is greater in Nigeria due to the Nigerian media obsession with reporting on corruption.

“I am not saying there is no corruption in Nigeria, there is corruption. If you look at corruption there is almost no country that is free, the degree varies, the perception varies.

“Transparency International talks about the way corruption is being perceived in different economies, why do we talk about the way corruption is being perceived, it depends on the issue raised in the media every day,” he said.

Some Nigerian soldiers have lamented to the media on the horrible living conditions they are experiencing as the figh Boko Haram in the far north. The soldiers appealed to the president to come to their aid as they can’t bear the situation anymore.

We have codenamed our central food supply centre CHOP AND DIE You eat & sentenced to the toilet.Rotation system is corrupt, some in frontline 4 over 2yrs, if u know someone u spend few months.

Allowance was hurriedly paid last Friday after 3 months of owing us. Sept allowances is still being owned.Things are really getting bad. Some soldiers are deserting but the story is kept secret.

Ops allowance and RCA (Ration Cash Allowance) calculated per head for feeding battalions are dissapearing.RCA in particular has not come since Aug.Commanders are doing their best.

They’ve been borrowing on credit.Food merchants have stopped giving out food on credit as a result of millions of RCA being owed.”

Luis Suarez and Neymar are included alongside Barcelona team-mate Messi, the trio having scored 106 club goals combined in 2016.

Fifa ended its association with the award in September.

The prize has been awarded by France Football every year since 1956, but for the past six years it became the Fifa Ballon d’Or in association with world football’s governing body.

The shortlist has traditionally been trimmed to three players before the awards evening in January.

WHO SHOULD WIN THE AWARD?

For Christians, the Holy Bible is the word and the law, which they adhere strictly to in all aspects of their lives. For the Muslims, the Quran is the word of Allah which they follow closely.

Most people think that this religions can be in harmony, while others feel they should be at loggerheads. What do you think? Before you answer, here are some verses from both books that say the exact same thing on various subjects:

1. Zechariah and John

While speaking on the matter of Zechariah and his son John the Baptist, here is what the Quran says:

Quran 3:39: Then the angels called him, while he was standing in prayer in Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room), : “Allah gives you glad tidings of Yahya (John).”

And the Bible says:

Luke 1:11-13: Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.… The angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John.

2. Angels and humans

On how angels feel about humans and their sins, the Quran had this to say:

Quran 42:5: …The angels exalt [God] with praise of their Lord and ask forgiveness for those on earth…

While the Bible says:

Luke 15:10: …The angels of God rejoice over one sinner who repents.

3. The seed and the growth

Do you know what causes seed to grow from the ground and bring forth fruit? The Quran says this:

Quran (63:64): Then tell Me about the seed that you sow in the ground. Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower?

The Bible toes the same line, saying:

1 Corinthians 3:7: So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.

4. Swearing by God’s name

Swearing an oath using God’s name is obviously frowned upon as we see in these verses. The Quran says:

Quran 2:224: Do not use God’s name in your oaths as an excuse to prevent you from dealing justly.

In the book of Exodus, the Bible says:

Exodus 20:7: Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

5. Parents and obedience

Wondering how parents should be treated? Here is what the Quran has to say:

Quran 17:23-24: You shall be kind to your parents. If one or both of them live to their old age in your lifetime, you shall not say to them any word of contempt nor repel them, and you shall address them in kind words. You shall lower to them the wing of humility and pray: “O Lord! Bestow on them Your blessings just as they cherished me when I was a little child.”

The Bible summarizes it in two lines, saying:

Exodus 20:12: Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

6. In praise of God

The Bible in Revelation has this to say about praise of God:

Revelation 4: 11: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things; by Your will they exist, and came to be.”

The Quran has this to say about the praise of Allah:

Quran 2:255: “Allah! None has the right to be worshiped but He, The Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth.…”

7. Guardian angels

Speaking on the matter of guardian angels, the Quran had this to say:

Quran 6:61: “…and He sends guardians (angels guarding and writing all of one’s good and bad deeds) over you, until when death approaches one of you, Our Messengers (angel of death and his assistants) take his soul, and they never neglect their duty.”

The Bible book of Exodus had this to say about angels:

Exodus 23:20: “I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.”

THE CURRENT STATE OF NIGERIA

As we all know Nigeria is not in its best of times, as it is currently experiencing an economy recession and Naira has depreciated badly against foreign currencies.
There is also an increased rate of debt, unemployment And Inflation

As a silver lining in Nigeria’s cloud, the rate of insurgency and terrorism has been reduced by the help of our gallant soldiers and 21 of the over 200 abducted Chibok girls were released. Nigeria has also been able to bring some corrupt persons to justice through the EFCC. The Department of State Security (DSS) has recently arrested 7 allegedly corrupt judges, which has been trending on the news till now. Nigeria’s Chief Justice Condemned DSS Sting Operation As Assault On Judiciary.

Some Nigerians think the corruption fight under Buhari’s administration is restricted to non-APC members making it a “witch hunt” to bring down oppositions while some Nigerians don’t believe it and think it’s the necessary thing to do.

WHY A STRONG OPPOSITION PARTY IS NEEDED

You may ask, What about the PDP? Well the stats say it all. PDP is no longer a strong opposition party in Nigeria. PPD started falling from the general elections in 2015 where APC became the dominant party in Nigeria.

The recent elections in Edo and Ondo state also prove this, despite the economy hardship currently experienced in the country, Nigerians still voted APC in, WHY? This is because APC seems to be a better choice to Nigerians compared to PDP. Some Nigerians blame the current hardship in the country on PDP’s incompetence and mismanagement in past years.

If PDP is not a strong opposition to APC, then no party in Nigeria currently is. This is the main reason Nigeria needs a strong opposition party to uphold good governance and democracy.
Former British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli once said, ” No government can be long secure without a formidable opposition”

A strong opposition party has roles that are vitally important to the democratic process of a country.

IMPORTANCE OF A STRONG OPPOSITION PARTY

– To check and balance the ruling party, holding them accountable and answerable to the public, a good opposition can put serious issues on the spotlight and have them resolved quickly.

– Having a strong opposition party gives citizens a viable choice in elections to replace the ruling party, If there was a better choice for Nigerians in the Edo and Ondo state elections, I am sure Nigerians will not hesitate to vote such party in. Without the ability of citizens to choose a viable choice to replace the ruling party, democratic right will become ineffective and the ruling party accountability to the citizens will be ultimately diminished.

– A strong opposition party not only ensure good governance and democracy, it also helps to develop a country’s in so many ways. For instance, if PDP tries to question the ruling party about the current state of the nation, APC will blame PDP for the hardship we find ourselves in and the blaming continues… This makes no push or pressure for development at all but if a strong and better opposition with good deeds rises, questions the ruling party and tries to make them answerable to the public, puts a lot of pressure on the ruling party to make swift amendments to pending issues in the country, because not doing that can make the ruling party lose support and interest of the citizens.
