The Central Bank of Nigeria has reacted to news it has devalued the Naira by as much as 15 percent, moving it from the official price of N307 to N360 and also adjusting the import and export window price from N360 to N380.

In a tweet on Saturday night, the bank deployed semantic obfuscation to describe its action, quoting Governor Godwin Emefiele as saying the devaluation “is an adjustment of price”.

The bank had taken commercial banks by surprise on Friday when it sold dollars at N360, instead of N307.

Later same day, the bank reflected its ‘new adjusted price’ on its website.

P.M.News reported on Friday that the bank made the adjustment cum devaluation to harmonise its multiple exchange rates and also because of the reality of the oil market, which gives Nigeria 90 per cent of its FX earnings.

Another said, they'll be seven days of heavy rain and it'll die off. I said Amen. Prophets are greater than pastors and so i said amen.

The service held at the National Headquarters at Ebute Metta Lagos after which the Assistant General Overseer, Pastor Odesola says that the commision is just obeying constituted authority of obeying the laws of the Land by not gathering more than 20 as stipulated by the lagos State Governemnt earlier in the week.

Rivers State Government has ordered the closure of all schools in the state and directed religious organisations to restrict their activities as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic.

In a broadcast on Friday, Rivers State Governor State, Nyesom Wike, said the action was taken in the interest of the state.

The closure, according to the governor, affects public and private primary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

He said, “To further strengthen our resolve to protect our citizens, the State Government has taken the following decisions;

”All schools in the state are to be closed down with effect from Monday, March 23, 2020. All religious organisations are to restrict their activities.

“As you are aware, the World Health Organisation has described coronavirus as a pandemic. This development calls for collective action by all well-meaning citizens.

“As a responsive government, we have set up a five-man Inter-ministerial committee to carry out aggressive public enlightenment that will protect all those living and doing business in the state from the disease.

“This decision was taken because we understand that we are the headquarters of the Hydrocarbon Industry and also a major commercial hub in the country that attracts people from all walks of life.

“The committee had since its inauguration carried out stakeholder engagement with Community Development Committees, religious groups, principals and headteachers of schools, traders association, National Union of Road Transport Workers, military, paramilitary, police, international oil companies and Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria.

“The State Ministry of Health has also been empowered to set up intervention resources; 158 Surveillance and Ad-hoc personnel have been trained, one treatment centre, holding centres in the two teaching hospitals and all General Hospitals in the state are fully functional.

“All health workers, both private and public have been trained and briefed on infection control measures and appropriate use of personal protective equipment, hand sanitizers have been procured, infrared thermometers have been procured and stockpiling of other commodities and equipment and we have redoubled surveillance at our airports, seaports, waterways and land routes.

“Let me assure all those resident in the state, that the State Government under my leadership is ready and willing to protect their lives at all times.

“May I, therefore, call for the understanding and collective support of all and sundry to keep our state safe from coronavirus. Together, we shall win with God on our side.”

A 35-year old man, Uche Okeke, who broke a bottle to stab a lady in a squabble over sex in a hotel in Lagos, has ended up damaging another man’s eye while trying to prevent him from attacking the lady.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the pieces of the bottle he broke pierced into the eye of the victim, Ikenna Okeke, while he was attempting to separate the fight and damaged the eye instantly.

The incident happened at Romeo and Juliet Hotel located at NNPC Junction, Ejigbo area of Lagos.
It was gathered that Uche Okeke went to the hotel to drink, met the lady believed to be a sex worker and they had negotiation over sex.However, the negotiation broke down and there was exchange of words between them. In the process, Uche broke a bottle to stab her and part of bottle hit the victim’s eye.

The victim was said to have bled profusely and was then rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that the left eye had been damaged and the victim cannot see with the eye again.

The matter was reported to the Police and Uche Okeke was arrested. After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and later charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for condemning the victim’s eye.He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the offence.The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T. O. Shomade, granted him bail and ordered his remand in prison custody pending when he will perfect the bail conditions.The matter was adjourned till 23rd March, 2020.

As part of the measures to curb the spread of coronavirus, the Lagos State Government has restricted religious and social gatherings to 20 people.

The government made the announcement on Saturday via its verified Twitter handle.

The state government had banned gatherings of over 50 people, explaining that it would be easier to trace that number of people if the need arises.

But with the confirmation of 10 new cases of coronavirus in Nigeria, with 7 in Lagos State, the government has now urged the people to adhere strictly to the new directive.

“The Lagos State Government has banned all religious or social gathering of over 20 people within the State.”

“It is important we all adhere to this directive,” the statement released on Saturday stated.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the closure of all the country’s airports to international flights till April 23, 2020. The Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Musa Nuhu disclosed this in a letter to all foreign airlines and operators on Saturday. He said domestic flights will continue normal operations at all airports.

The NCAA had shut down the international wing of three airports in Nigeria on Friday. This is in line with the directive of the Federal Government to restrict international flights in response to the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic. The three airports closed down were; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu; and the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa. This leaves only the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja in operation.

However, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, late yesterday, said Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos would be closed too. Sirika, while fielding questions from State House Correspondents on Friday, said the five international airports should have been closed instead of singling out three. Since then, 10 more cases of the coronavirus disease have been confirmed in the country, bringing the country’s burden of coronavirus infections to a total of 22.

Three of the 10 new cases are in Abuja, the country’s capital. The other seven are in Lagos. Nine of the new 10 infections had “have travel history outside Nigeria in the last one week,” the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said in a tweet.

Nigeria’s coronavirus cases jumped overnight from 12 to 22, with three new cases in Abuja and seven new ones in Lagos.

The Nigerian centre for Disease Control made this known on Saturday.

Lagos, which appears to be the epicentre of the COVID-19 in Nigeria, now has 17 cases, Abuja 3 and Ekiti 1. The 22nd confirmed case, an Italian was discharged on Saturday, when his tests turned negative.

Minister of Health, Prof. Osagie Ehanire has disclosed that Nigeria has recorded 10 new cases of the deadly Coronavirus, bringing the total to 22 cases.

Ehanire, on his twitter handle on Saturday said the 10 new cases were recorded in Lagos and Abuja.

“That is a total of 22 cases in Nigeria: Lagos 16, FCT 3, Ekiti 1 and Ogun 2. two have been discharged.
