Content:

Employment is work that one does to earn money. Some people work for other people e.g. teachers work for the owner of the school, while some people are self-employed e.g. mechanic, shopkeepers, hairdressers etc.

Unemployment is a situation when one does not have a job which brings income. Underemployment is when one does not have a job that fetches sufficient income, e.g. when a worker is only occupied for three hours instead of eight hours a day.

Causes of Unemployment

1. Shortage of Money: Government and Companies sack people when they have little money to pay salaries.
2. Laziness
3. Inability to work e.g. handicapped (blind people or cripple)
4. Overpopulation of these are too many people available for job
5. Lack of necessary skills.
6. Underemployment: Some countries are yet to develop so they have less industries.

Problems caused by unemployment

1. It leads to increase in crime rate e.g. stealing, kidnapping.
2. It leads to frustration.
3. Unemployed people find it hard to cater for themselves and families.
4. It can lead to decrease in standard of living.

Household Pests are destructive to life and properties. It is therefore necessary to eradicate them from homes by:

1. Setting traps for rodents.
2. Using insecticides and rodent poison e.g. rat poison.
3. Use toxic chemicals to kill pest.

Effects of Pests in the Home

1. They cause damage to household structures and materials.
2. They damage doors, windows, walls and floors in the home.
3. They destroy human and pet foods with their faeces.
4. They poison our food.
5. They make the house dirty by covering it with faeces and cobwebs.
6. They pierce and suck human blood leading to sickness.
7. They cause offensive odour in the home.
8. They destroy clothes, books, documents etc.

It is a black Tuesday as three siblings helping their mother shade fresh tomatoes at Sangotedo, Lagos have been crushed to death by a speeding truck.

The accident also claimed the life of a bystander.

The Nation gathered that the truck driver, in a bid to avoid running into motorists plying against the traffic swerved towards the victims, killing them in the process.

Nigerian billionaire businessman and Chairman of Globe Motors, Willie Anumudu is dead. He died at the age of 68.

Late Anumudu died this morning Tuesday April 21 after a brief illness not related to COVID-19.

He was to be air-lifted to Germany this morning but died about 4am.

He is survived by his wife Nkiru, and 4 children including popular stylist, Ozinna Anumudu.

Globe Motors is an automobile dealership based in Lagos, Nigeria. The company deals exclusively in brand new passenger and commercial vehicles. Its stable of brands comprises Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Hyundai and Higer.

The sustained offensive against Boko Haram and the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) might see them surrender soon.

Following brutal grand offensive mounted by the Armed Forces of Nigeria against Boko Haram and the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP), the body language of terror leader, Abubakar Shekau, is that of surrender, military authorities said yesterday.

This comes after they confirmed the killing of key Boko Haram commanders during airstrikes on Durbarda, Borno State, according to a report by ThisDay.

Speaking at a briefing in Abuja attended by the leadership of DICON, led by Major General Victor Ezugwu, the Coordinator of the Directorate of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Major General John Enenche, said while there was no official contact with the terror leader, his body language showed that he was ready to surrender.

He added that Boko Haram has been degraded by the ongoing pounding of its forces and structures.

“If you talk about body language, the body language is there. If he makes any move in that regard, you will know but from the onslaught from troops, they can’t hide anymore”, he said

He stated that more airstrikes conducted by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole killed key Boko Haram commanders.

“Several key Boko Haram terrorists, Boko Haram/ISWAP leaders, have been killed and their structures destroyed in airstrikes conducted by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole at Durbada in Borno State.

“The operation was executed on the heels of credible Human Intelligence (HUMINT) reports, which were confirmed by a series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, indicating that the settlement was one of the locations where some of the terrorists’ hierarchy often hibernate”, he said.

He explained that fighter jets dispatched by the Air Task Force took turns in attacking the location scoring accurate hits within the target area, which resulted in the death of many terrorists.

“Others, who were seen attempting to flee the area, were taken out in follow-on attacks.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in furtherance of the objective of restoring peace and security in the North-east will sustain the offensive against the enemies of our nation”, he said.

One of President Muhammadu Buhari’s personal bodyguards, Warrant Officer Lawal Mato, is dead.

The announcement of Mato's death was made on Tuesday by the Presidency.

Mato, according to a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, succumbed to diabetes, which he had struggled with in the last three years, on Tuesday.

He was one of the security details restored back to President Buhari by the late President Umaru Musa-Yar’adua as personal security, but had been off full duty in the last three years.

“After three years of struggling with diabetes, one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s bodyguards, Warrant Officer Lawal Mato, on Tuesday passed away.

“The President described the officer, who had been working with him for many years before he won the 2015 elections, as ‘very thorough, trustworthy and dependable soldier who carried out his duty with diligence and focus.

“President Buhari prayed that Allah will ease his passage to paradise and grant his family, government and people of Jigawa State, the fortitude to bear the loss.

“WO Mato was part of a team that former President Umaru Musa Yar’adua restored to President Buhari as personal security and he had been off full duty for three years, treating diabetes”, the statement said.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) branch office in Jos, Plateau State has been gutted by fire.

This was confirmed on Tuesday by the apex bank on its Twitter page.

“Minor fire outbreak at the Jos branch of Central bank of Nigeria, promptly contained today, April 21, 2020,” the apex bank tweeted.

This adds to the series of fire outbreaks that have hit key government offices in the country in recent days.

On April 8, fire broke out at the Treasury House, a building housing the Accountant General of the Federation’s office, exactly a week after there was another fire outbreak at the headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) while the Independent National Electoral Commission’s office in Abuja was also gutted by fire a few days after.

Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon has been called upon to act swiftly after a Nigerian lady identified as Peace Ufuoma was put up for sale by a Lebanese man, Wael Jerro on Facebook for $1000.

Jerro had taken to a Facebook Marketplace group and posted the advert of the lady he claimed was his maid.

However, a woman identified as Renee Abi Saad who saw the grave injustice decided to expose Jerro by sharing the photo of the incident.

She wrote:

Nigerians who have reacted to the sad story have called for the arrest of Jerro.

The death toll in Lagos of coronavirus related illnesses jumped to 16 on Monday, with two new deaths.

Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, announced the new deaths on Tuesday.

One of them was a 45 year-old man, who returned from India in January.

The second was a 36 year old woman who had a severe underlying health problems.

Abayomi tweeted that the woman had no history of travel or contact with any confirmed case of coronavirus.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any concern about COVID-19 infection in their various communities.

Lagos is the worst hit state by the virus with 379 infections.

According to Abayomi, 98 patients have been discharged and 16 have died.
