The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Ahmad Abdurrahman, has warned residents to respect the shutdown of public places in order to avoid contracting Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Abdurrahman said the police would enforce the shutdown of public places, including places of worship, to check the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, quoted the commissioner as saying this in a statement on Wednesday.

Ndukwe said that the commissioner reassured the general public of his command’s unwavering commitment to enforce the government’s restriction orders on curbing the spread of the Coronavirus.

“This reassurance is in view of the agreement reached between the government of Enugu State and leaders of religious organisations to shut down places of worship until further notice.

“And the consequent denial by the Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, of media reports alleging that he opposed the government and police by not shutting down branches of the church over the COVID-19 pandemic as agreed.

“The Commissioner, while taking into cognisance the priestly agreement and rebuttal of the alleged media reports, has enjoined citizenry, especially members of the clergy, to ensure continuous compliance with the orders and shutdown of churches, mosques and other public places of worship.

“He noted that the Command will continue to professionally do everything within it powers to enforce the orders as stipulated, irrespective of whose Ox is gored,’’ he said.

The police spokesman also noted that the commissioner advised the citizenry to remain vigilante, steadfast and prayerful in the fight against the deadly scourge.

“The citizenry should reach the Command on 08032003702, 08075390882 or 08086671202, or by sending electronic mail to [email protected] for emergencies, complaints, inquiries, and suggestions,’’ he said.

The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has handsomely rewarded an outstanding highway sweeper, Fasasi Raheemat Oluwabukola, on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, incident commander of the state.

Raheemat was sighted and videoed along Dolphin/Osbourne Road, her operational corridor, by Ms. Adebisi Awoniyi, a resident of Dolphin Estate, a video that later went viral on the social media, few days ago.

Speaking during the brief presentation along that corridor, managing director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, noted that the recognition was to appreciate Raheemat’s constant diligence and impassioned service, as attested by Ms. Awoniyi, who claimed to have regularly observed her, during her daily work-out sessions.

The LAWMA boss noted further, that there was reward for diligent hard work, because one could never tell who was watching at any point in time.

He said: ‘Raheemat, you are being recognised on behalf of Mr. Governor, who had also seen your video posted by Ms. Awoniyi; doing your work so passionately. There is reward for whatever we do, especially when you are diligent, doing your work from the heart. You never know who may be watching’.
    0_1586345156582_7690.jpg
‘Your video had gone far and Mr. Governor had seen it, as well as the Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, and had all decided that you be recognised for conscientious work and uncommon diligence. I hope this will further motivate you and also inspire your colleagues, to work even harder because there is dignity in labour’.

Dr. Gbadegesin who profusely thanked Ms. Awoniyi for her patriotic disposition, said there was nothing shameful being a cleaner, noting that his first job as a young man, was being a janitor.

He frowned on the unwholesome attitude of some residents, who indulge in throwing waste onto the highway from their moving vehicles, stressing that LAWMA would ensure a friendly work environment, for its over 15,000 sweepers, including the provision of road-side shelters and other basic necessities.

According to him, ‘We will continue to provide a good and clement work condition, for our more than 15,000 sweepers, who are in the first line of defence in our cleaning business’, he concluded.

Commenting on the work attitude of Raheemat, Ms. Awoniyi disclosed that she always wondered at how passionately she went about her duty every day, and that was the motivation behind the viral photo.

According to her, ‘I see Raheemat every day as I go for my morning work-out sessions, working with so much commitment and every time I am touched; feeling that if everyone would do public service with so much passion and dedication. She is simply outstanding and exceedingly diligent’.

She enjoined other sweepers and those in public service, to emulate her work attitude.
    0_1586345162176_7810.jpg
Responding, face suffused in tears, Raheemat expressed profuse gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu, for the rather unexpected recognition, stressing that it was most unexpected, as she was only going about her duty from the bottom of her heart and to the best of her ability.

She said: ‘I took the sweeper job to raise money to buy my tools as a trained dress-designer. But I always believe that I should put my heart and my best in whatever I do at any time. I can’t adequately express the depth of my gratitude to the Governor, to Lagos State and to LAWMA. May God continue to bless the state’, she concluded.

Top officials of Edo state government-owned Central Hospital in Benin City, on Tuesday allegedly abandoned their respective duty posts, just to avoid receiving customised hand sanitizers donated by a governorship aspirant in the state, Dr. Pius Odubu.

The incident caused a mild drama in the premises of the Hospital, as the campaign team of the former Deputy Governor got stranded.

Odubu who is one of the frontline aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who have vowed to stop Governor Godwin Obaseki from securing the party’s ticket for a second term.

He said the donation of the hand sanitizers was part of efforts to assist health care personnel in the containment of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the state.

Confirming the incident, the Director-General of Odubu Campaign Organisation, Barr. Henry Idahagbon, said, “the Hospital management had agreed on 11 am last Wednesday, to receive the donation.”

He expressed concern that no official of the Hospital was on ground to receive the donations on behalf of the health workers when the organisation visited on the agreed date.

According to him, “When we got to the hospital, we called the Medical Director, Dr. Edomwonyi, to intimate him of our presence in the facility.

“His response was that ‘My brother I am not around and you know this is politics’.

“At that point, we left and proceeded to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where we made the donations.”

The MD, Dr. Edomwonyi Ekuase, could not be reached for comment as calls to his mobile lines did not go through.

However, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Patrick Okundia, said he was not aware of the development.

“It is not to my knowledge. You need to also find out whether some people have picked them and kept them somewhere,” Okundia said.

A petrol attendant, Chibuisi Okameme, was on Sunday shot dead allegedly by a policeman, Inspector Stanley Asu.

The incident occurred opposite the Greenmac Energy Limited filling station on the New Umuahia Road, Ogborhill area of the Aba North Local Government Area of Abia State.

Punch Metro gathered that a diabetic patient was on his way to hospital for treatment when some policemen attached to the Ohuru Isimiri Police Division, who were enforcing the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, intercepted his vehicle opposite the filling station.

Okameme was said to have intervened on behalf of the patient, who is a regular customer at the filling station, but Asu allegedly shot the 26-year-old around 1pm.

The bullet penetrated Okameme’s pelvis and he was soaked in a pool of his own blood.

His co-workers and the security guards at the filling station apprehended the inspector, while the victim was rushed to the Abia University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The manager of the filling station, Nwabeke Ndubuisi, said Okameme died as doctors were battling to save his life, adding that security guards at the station prevented Asu and his colleagues from escaping.

Ndubuisi stated, “The man, who was going to hospital, is one of our regular customers, but the policemen, who were enforcing the lockdown directive of the state governor, stopped him in front of our filling station and were about taking him to the station when Okameme went to plead with the policemen to leave the man alone. As both men were pleading, one of the policemen shot Okameme.

“The men didn’t engage in an argument with the five policemen; they were only pleading with them when Asu shot Okameme. The policemen were in a commercial bus and were about fleeing when some of members of staff and soldiers guarding our filling station stopped them. The soldiers instructed the policemen to take him to hospital and we all went to the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, where he died.”

A picture made available to our correspondent showed Okameme’s remains lying on a hospital bed with a blood-stained bandage wrapped around his waist.

The deceased’s brother-in-law, Dr Cyril Irobi, while condemning Asu for perpetrating the crime, demanded justice and urged the police authorities to intervene in the case.

He stated, “We want justice for Okameme’s death. The shot was direct and the bullet went through his left pelvis and came out of his right pelvis. The DPO said he had been cautioning his officers, but I asked him how a policeman could make use of his weapon to do such a thing.

“The man, who was intercepted by the policemen, has been released, because the policemen at the station confirmed that he is a diabetic patient and came out because he required treatment. We want justice.

“There could have been a total breakdown of law and order if not that I intervened, because an angry mob was about to attack the station. Even the DPO could not come out, but I had to caution the youth not to take the law into their own hands. When I visited the station, I saw Inspector Asu crying in a cell and the DPO was specific that he had been cautioning him.”

Another brother-in-law of the deceased, Christian William, said the victim’s mother was also demanding justice.

“I want the government to stop the police harassment; they have been using guns to threaten people. I want justice to prevail over my in-law’s death. His father is late, but I have personally informed his mother, Aloma Chikezie, and she wants the policeman to be dealt with. We were told to visit the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department tomorrow (Tuesday),” William said.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Geoffrey Ogbonna, said, “It was an accidental discharge; it was not intentional and we sincerely condemn that carelessness on the side of the policeman. Definitely, the family of the deceased will get justice. The case is under investigation.”

The Senior Pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming of Jesus Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa, on Monday has warned Christians to be awake at this time saying that Satan is targeting the church using coronavirus.

Pastor Giwa stated that the pandemic was created to distract “the children of God” from gathering and praying.

According to a report by DailyPost, the clergyman called on Christians not to be discouraged by the current happenings across the globe.

He said, “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we can achieve this victory through our faith, says 1 John 5:4.

“The main target of this epidemic is the church, and we must not allow Satan to rejoice. In our different houses, we must not relent in prayer and fasting.

“Satan, Lucifer, and the old Serpent has taken over the government all over the world, but our faith in God will vindicate us.

“Our political leaders are now confused because they no longer put their trust in God. Lucifer is now the driver directing them to do and undo.

“What God revealed to me days ago was powerful. I saw some few people being bathed clean while they didn’t bath millions of people.

“I asked God why they didn’t bath a good number of people. My greatest surprise was that there was no time for God to reply to me as the ‘Rapture” suddenly occurred.

“If it is the will of God to allow what is happening in the world to happen, there is nothing anybody can do.

“However, if God is not in it, their plans shall definitely fail, because nobody can change God’s plan.

“I want to urge true believers of Christ all over the world not to be looking for Antichrist but to be looking for Jesus Christ.

“We should not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is happening because everything we need to know is in the Scripture.

“Revelation 13:17 tells us how no one would be able to buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, called ‘666’.

“The evil people are those who created this epidemic to distract the children of God from prayers, fasting among others.

“They are trying to weaken the church so we won’t be able to gather together and pray in one accord.”

    0_1586181921611_Pastor-Ashimolowo-counters-Chris-Oyakhilome-1536x818.jpg

Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, the Founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre has disagreed with Pastor Chris Oyakilome over claims of a link between the 5G network, Coronavirus, and anti-Christ.

Ashimolowo described the teachings linking the 5G network to coronavirus and anti-Christ as “foolish theories.”

For the past few days, popular pastors and politicians have found a way to link the 5G network with spiritual things and the Coronavirus epidemic.

These theories have, however, led to confusion and fear worldwide.

There have also been reports of 5G masts set ablaze in the United Kingdom and other countries.

One of the pastors who have further raised the theory of 5G network, coronavirus, and anti-christ include Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

He told his members in a sermon that the 5G was part of the new world order where some figures of authority in the world were trying to build a religion, economy, and government for the entire universe.

Quoting Revelation Chapter 13, he said there is no need for a vaccine, adding that these are part of the Antichrist’s plan for new world order.

However, Ashimolowo countered Oyakilome’s statement, He explained that there was no correlation between 5G and end-time signs.

He warned Christians that this is a pandemic as recorded in the bible and must be dealt with as such.

He said: “If coronavirus is caused by 5G, why is it in his village that does not have a 5G?

“It has always been the nature of Christian leaders to plant fear in their members whenever there was going to be a major world occurrence.

“The church should be more concerned about preparing their members for the Second Coming of the Lord instead of condemning a major technological breakthrough.

“It’s fake news to associate 5G to coronavirus.”

The pastor added that he was ashamed of pastors who are ill-informed and misleading the public.
