Policeman of SARS

The Ogun Police Command has said the footballer that was killed on Saturday was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver and not by a policeman as widely reported.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, made this known in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abeokuta.

Reports on Saturday alleged that an operative of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) had killed the Assistant Captain of Remo Stars FC, Kazeem Tiyamiyu, after he was arrested.

But Oyeyemi said the late footballer, who was popularly known as Kaka, died while trying to escape after his arrest.

He claimed that the footballer was knocked down by a vehicle when he attempted to cross the highway.

According to him, the footballer was also arrested for wearing a military cap and not on suspicion of internet fraud.

He further pointed out that the operative, who arrested the deceased, was an inspector attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad (ZIS), Obada, and not a SARS operative.

“A police inspector attached to Zonal Intervention Squad, Obada-Oko, in Abeokuta, was said to have received an information about the deceased that he was always putting on military apparels knowing fully well that he was not a military officer.

“Based on the information, the inspector went to Sagamu and saw the deceased putting on a military cap consequent upon which he got him arrested.

” On the way to Abeokuta, the vehicle they were traveling in developed a mechanical fault and while the officer was trying to rectify the fault, the arrested person jumped down from the vehicle to escape.

“In his bid to run across the road, an on coming vehicle which was on high speed knocked him down and he died on the spot,” he said.

Oyeyemi disclosed that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the immediate arrest of the officer for his unprofessional act of leaving an arrested person alone in the vehicle.

“A full scale investigation into the case by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department has commenced,” he said.

The root of a thing or the foundation is very important. The way you get born again is very, very important. There is a difference between a man who got born again and the first message that confronted him was the message of brokenness and holiness and a man that got born again and the first message that confronted him was dancing, there is a difference. When they start to grow in their christian life you can see the difference because there is something somebody with a holiness background cannot just do. It is showing, we have many of them on the streets. The white man who said, God first, knows what he was talking about. Once God is the foundation, even if you go and put something which is bad on top of God, it cannot stay, it will fall off. This is why some of us are very restless anytime we are doing something bad and if care is not taken they catch you.

The root is a very important part of a plant, it anchors that plant to the ground. It supplies food from the ground to that plant. If the root now has a problem, it would seem to be seen on the whole of the plant. That is, the root will determine the destiny of the plant. When there is a sick root, there would be a sick life.

When there is a polluted root, there would be a polluted life. When there is a cursed root there would be a cursed life. Gehazi was in the school of the prophets and he thought he was going to be very smart there, he wanted to outsmart the Almighty. He tried to deceive the man of God but that day was the end of his destiny. And that made Gehazi and the whole of his lineage to be a lineage of lepers.

If somebody from the family of Gehazi comes for prayers and he begins to pray fire prayer on the leprosy, it will not work until somebody goes back to the curse of that prophet. What I am saying is that something done by our grand, grand parents can determine our destiny. If then you do not know how to send your axe back to the root, the person would just suffer for nothing, not really know what is going on. Most of these problems have been in families for five thousand years., so you need desperation to uproot them out of your life.

For example, in the black man's country, when you get married, you must marry everybody then problem starts. I know a family, in that family all men marry witches and it is because that is what is there. The kind of women they would find attractive are witches. The ones that are not witches they would find one fault or the other. Either they would say the legs are crooked or they would say the girl is slim, because of that they would throw them out. But when they meet the witches, they'll say she is a wonderful woman and they go and marry them. Therefore if you have strong roots aligned to God your growth would be stable. As it is for plants, so it is for human beings. It is the root that would strengthen and support us when the evil winds of life begin to blow. It blows on everyone, no exception and ninety percent of people do not survive it.

As far as these storms are blowing, if you do not have adequate response, there would be trouble. The fact that you are a child of God, you are born again, coming to a Bible believing Church is good. But it does not purge the root, it has given you a door to go and purge it, but it is not the purging itself. Been born again gives a door for solution. When terrible winds begin to attack us without warning, it was our network of solid roots that would hold us firm and keep us straight. All the beautiful branches, nice leaves, no matter how attractive they are, they cannot fortify us when the attack by the mad winds of life start. It takes deep and powerful roots to keep us standing.

The reason many fall so easily is because those roots are weak, so that is why they cannot stand. it is time for iron to enter into our roots, it is time for holy stubbornness to come into our roots. It is time for our roots to become stubborn against satanic adversity. These are very, very serious matters especially if you are a black person.

There are many people in our world been harassed by satanic rays of sun but when they have the strongholds they can stand. So there is a powerful relationship between the root of our lives and destiny.

What is your Root?
The root includes the foundation of your life. It is that on which the totality of your life is built. The root is the platform prepared for you to sit upon by your ancestors. Gehazi prepared the platform for his children and they sat on it. So the root has an important role to play in the life of anything because it holds the whole structure. It is just like somebody building a house, you cannot build a good house on a wrong foundation, the foundation of the house is the building. If the foundation of the house is bad, no matter which building you're building on it, it will soon collapse. Therefore it is time for us to thoroughly examine our foundation and pray violently concerning it.

Ninety percent of spiritual and physical problems are due to this sick root. A lot of people right from the time they were born have placed the ladder of their lives on the wrong wall and that has been the problem. They want to build a holy structure on it. Many are trying to build on contaminated and polluted foundation. Many have already placed their building on that kind of foundation. It is true that our past is gone but it is not quite dead. Unless you have been washed in the Blood of the Lamb, in the Word of God and in the fire of the Holy Spirit, your past would be busy reporting you to the present. Until your are completely washed by that Blood of the Lamb, soaked with the Blood of God, baptized with Fire, the past will condition the tomorrow of the person.

So the faulty root or the sick root is a universal gossip trying to tell the future what punishment we are entitled to from our past mistakes or our so called forgotten mistakes.

Jesus said to the Israelite's in John 5:45, Do not think that i am the one going to accuse you, that Moses that died that you believe in, and you are reading his law, is the reporter. Little did they know that the Moses of their past accused them.

What is happening to many lives started very early in their lives. Some of these things that were introduced to the root of many lives are still in place. In some cases the wicked who introduced these things are dead. It is only the power of the Holy Spirit that can go back to those dead people and do something on your behalf. So you and I have the authority to demand what belongs to us and Jesus would hearken to it. There are many blessings that we have not acquired which we must fight for and receive. Many of us have been fighting battles all our lives, in fact if not for that fight some would not come to Mountain of Fire.

Some fought with the wrong weapons, they eventually discovered that their weapons cannot really match their enemies. The root has to be dealt with to attain what God wants you to achieve. There are some people who do not want their children to be female so they took some actions to make them male, but now the child is still female, that child is in trouble. They would generally become tomboys, iron ladies, no control, no marriage, going all over the place behaving like men. Beating up the husbands, it is the root that is the cause of it.

The foundation of the sex life of a person is very important too. The first contact of a woman to sex is very important to your marriage and the totality of your life thereafter. If it is corrupt you have to send the Fire of God to your foundation. If it is a business, the root too is very important. Most of the black man's roots have been contaminated by curses, covenants, spiritual deposits, satanic seeds and satanic weight. A lot of people who are above fifty years in this country were probably born in the herbalists home.

Some people's parents open the door and they just enter, maybe when they were trying to protect them. Because of that all kinds of things begin to happen to them. This is why you find a lot of people inflicting injuries on themselves, continuous business failures, abnormal sex life, all kinds of terrible things. The area where you grow up may have effect on you. You need to pray about environmental root. That is why some find themselves in the village in the dream. A whole family could be under a curse and you, trying to escape the strong man would gather this arsenal together to harass the person.

There were two men who lived in the same period, one is Jonathan Edwards. For those of you who study church history, you would know that Jonathan Edwards was the first person to take what we now call altar call. He was a priest of a formal church and he was looking at the congregation and they made him cry every day. People are just coming to church, no change in their lives, no fire, they had turned the church to a ceremonious place. The man read the Acts of the apostles, by the time he compared it with what he was seeing in the church, he found that it was a far cry from what it was supposed to be in the book. Then he went to tell the congregation that if they are not doing what is in the law there is no light in them. One day he arrived on Sunday and changed his message, he preached this message. Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God. He told them that as they were sitting down on their pews, hell fire is just below and it would not take a second to enter inside. For the first time some of them who came to church were genuinely born again. That was the beginning of the American revival of the 18th century.

There was another man that lived at that time called Max Juxes, he was a terrible person, a drunk, very wicked. Then years after their deaths an analysis was carried out on these two men to see what their offspring would be like. For Max Juxes, they counted 767 offspring and about 100 were alcoholics, 7 were murderers, 310 were beggars, 200 were prostitutes, 150 were criminals. For Jonathan Edwards, they analyzed 339 people. One of them was vice president of America, 13 were judges, 60 were medical doctors, 65 were university professors, 100 were lawyers, 100 were pastors and missionaries. Now you can see the root has decided their destinies.

If you grow up in a polygamous home where there is open hatred; if as a young person you stay with a herbalist and he was teaching you charms and incantations, it would affect your destiny. If as a young lady you cannot count more than three boyfriends that you have slept with before you now settle down with another man, you need to pray. If you know that your mother was possessed with evil spirits and she died confessing as a witch, you need to pray. If you a re given a bad name, like darkness or dog, you need to pray. If you notice that as a young person, you see strange things others cannot see, you need to pray. If you're participating in oral sex, or kissing sex organs, putting male organs in your mouth, you need to pray because it is a perversion of divine order, and God places the person under a curse. Maybe you have something from India, you read the seven books of Moses, you need to pray. Maybe you have been kidnapped before or fortified with charms, you need to pray.

Perhaps you were abandoned as a child and you know it, you need to pray. The reason i want you to know all these things if for you to see the relationship between the root of a persons life and the eventual destiny of that person. It does not matter who you are, if you do not address it, things would begin to happen that you do not like. Likewise, no matter how a meeting is, if somebody has a terrible root you may come there and go home untouched. A plant with a bad root would have bad growth, such people may not experience spiritual growth.

How to Know a Sick Root

• When miracles are passing you by without locating your life.

• When your spiritual growth is minimal or non-existent no matter how hard you try.

• When anything you lay your hands on are not prospering.

• When your health is very poor.

• Unfruitful spiritual life. Having confused and frustrated life.

• When your life is full of worries and anxiety.

• When a life is filled with bad habits and addiction.

• Unable to resist evil temptations.

Way out to Purge your Root

• Search your spirit and see that you do not harbor any malice or unforgiveness against anybody.

• Ask the Lord to show you where things went wrong.

• Repent from all known sins.

• Eject the strangers at the root.

A 37-year old man, Olamide Jimoh, has denied that he defiled a 10-year old girl but told the Police in Lagos that he only opened her private part to check her up and did not force his way into her.

According to reports, the incident happened at Popoola Street, Elliot area of Iju Ishaga, Lagos, where they reside,

The matter was reported to the Police at Isokoko Division; Jimoh was arrested and detained at the Police Station for interrogation.

During interrogation, he told the Police that he did not penetrate her because she was still a minor and cannot bear the size of his dick.
However, the victim told the Police that the suspect, Jimoh, lured her to his apartment, removed her pant and tried forcing his dick into her private part.
The Police then asked Jimoh what he was checking inside her private part since he claimed that he did not defile the victim but he was unable to explain. Besides, medical reports stated that her private part was ruptured.
Hence, he was charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Benson Emerhi, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, ordered Jimoh to be remanded in prison custody without an option of fine.
The Court also ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice while Jimoh will remain in custody pending the outcome of DPP’s report.
The matter was adjourned till 26th March, 2020. The matter may likely be moved to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends that he should be tried for defilement.

News has filtered out on social media that popular actress, Nkechi Blessing and her boyfriend, Mike Adeyemi, are no longer together…for the umpteenth time.

Adeyemi shared a photo on his Instagram page where he declared his single status. The young man said that being single is a choice and not as a result of a lack of options.

In another post shared on his page, Nkechi Blessing took to the comment section to ask if she could reapply for the role of being his girlfriend.

Adeyemi declined the offer by saying application is full and that the actress should consult his manager via DM for the full waiting list.

Nkechi wrote: “Single man, pls can I reapply?”

Adeyemi replied: “@nkechiblessingsunday application is full I’m sorry dm my manager to get on the wait list.”

Recall that it was only a while ago when Nkechi slammed a troll who said that her relationship with her man would soon end because the man would leave her.

In man's mathematics, one plus one is two. In God's mathematics sometimes when you say one plus one the Almighty will tell you that it is equal to one because He says two shall become one. So God's mathematics is different from our own. In satanic mathematics when you add one plus one it becomes zero.

Somebody had taken something, it was an item, he added it to his property, and because of that, a whole nation got into trouble. He lost his family and everything he had. He went straight away to hell fire without any notice. There is something called cursed money or strange money. Once this kind of money is given to somebody or paid into your company's account and it mixes with your money, it will bring financial destruction.

I was speaking to a sister in Abuja. As at the time she was talking to me, she had nothing in her account anymore but she had about fifty thousand there before. She found one prophetess who wanted to pray for her to get married and the prophetess gave her 50 kobo to pay into her account. In obedience to the prophetess, she collected the fifty kobo and paid it into her account. Little by little, problems started flowing like water to her. She started going into debt, sickness and other things were pursuing her around until the whole money in her account vanished. That kind of money is satanic habitation.

This kind of money would make a person to experience one disaster or another, one problem after another. Sometimes they sell houses or land, then sometimes they begin to beg for food because something was cohabiting what they have. It could be so bad the the fellow may not have enough clothes to cover his nakedness well. This is the first satanic habitation that has paralyzed so many people. it is an evil mathematics. If God adds to you you will expand, but if the devil adds to you diminishing takes place.

Achan stole something from Babylon and mixed it with his own. That cursed material from Babylon polluted his property. It placed every other thing under a curse. We have so many people who are merchandising so many things. We have so many men of God who are telling lies to take people's money, but it is accursed money. We have so many who are selling prayer, they would pray for people for five minutes and tell them pay ten thousand naira.

They pray on anointing oil and sell it to people at the rate of ten thousand naira. They charge people money to go and do night vigil in their house. All these are cursed money because the Bible says freely are you given, freely ye give. That satanic habitation to Achan's property has a very serious implication because Achan was previously blessed materially but that small habitation converted his materials to cursed material. The family of Achan into which the cursed material entered was cursed too. Even Achan's animals had to be destroyed in judgement.

There was a man who used to have a poultry farm People would come and buy eggs, he would collect money from the person and say the person has not paid.

There was a strange fire that came to that farm, nobody knew how the fire entered. Everything in that farm was roasted. The man started crying that he has lost millions of money. But when he was doing strange things there he did not know that he was inviting something. So when a strange material comes in, it cause problems. That is satanic mathematics.

The Bible says a man shall receive nothing except he is given from above. there are so many things that are in people's hands that are not from above but from beneath.

Deuteronomy 7:26, "Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house lest thou be a cursed thing like it, but thou shalt utterly abhor it for it is a cursed thing"

Strange possession, strange material added to our possession would cause many problems for us. Check your life, is there anything there that should not be there? Look through your house, is there anything in that house that is acquired in a cloudy manner? Because for God to bless you, he will first of all pass you through cleaning or cleansing of cloudy things around you. So harboring evil properties introduce strangers into your possessions. How did you acquire the property in your house?

A sister was coming to Mountain of Fire before, suddenly she said she was not coming again. When i asked her why, she said that we are saying that people should not have sugar daddy, how would somebody make it in this lagos? So she ran way to look for sugar daddies. She did not know that she can make it without going to sugar daddy, the idea of making it is not clear to her.

How did you acquire the property in your house? Did you acquire them through fraudulent means? By telling lies? Perhaps you have stolen things before getting born again and you are still keeping them now. The constant headache some people are having may be that you are sleeping on a stolen pillow. That back ache you're having may be that you stole the chair or bed in your house. Is it your boyfriend that gave you the bed? Do not be surprised that demons are walking around your house. The ulcer that is troubling you is because you are eating with a stolen plate or spoon. The joblessness, were you reading stolen books when you were in school? If you have been keeping stolen material in your house, he has a right to come and be inspecting them. Evil spirits would not leave a person alone if you're harboring the devils property. One of the foolish things that women do is borrow people's wears. Others would go and borrow bangles without knowing the source the owner used to acquire it. The devil would say I am already drinking the blood of that person you borrowed those things from, now i will start on you.

Do not allow the devil to deceive or blackmail you, return anything in your possession that is wrongly acquired to the owner. Do not be one of those who are living with a woman without paying dowry or doing correction marriage and you're praying for breakthrough. Zachaeus did restitution and Jesus settled in his house. Do the same thing so that you can receive Jesus in your life and in your home.

Another evil satanic mathematics is unforgiveness. Mathew 18:21, "Then came Peter to Him, and said, Lord how oft shall my brother sin against me and i forgive him? Jesus said unto him, I say not unto thee until seventy times seventy. Therefore is the kingdom of Heaven likened unto a certain king which would take account of the servants. And when he had began to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But for as much as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold and his wife, and children and all that he had and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down and worshiped him, saying Lord have patience with me and I will pay thee all. The the Lord of that servant was moved with compassion and loosed him and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out and found one of the fellow servant which owed him an hundred pence, and he laid hands on him, and took him by the , saying pay me that thou owest. And his fellow servant fell down at his feet and besought him saying, Have patience with me, and i will pay thee all. And he would not, but went and cast him into prison till he should pay the debt.

So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord after he had called him said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me.

Shouldest not thou also had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as i had pity on thee? And his word was wrought and delivered him to the tormentors till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly father do also unto you if ye from your hearts forgive not everyone his brother their trespasses."

Unforgiveness is bad mathematics and very bad business sense. This is what exactly many people are doing. The more you exercise unforgiveness the more you put yourself in trouble and expose yourself to tormentors. Isaiah 30:1, "Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel but not of me, and that cover with a covering but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin".

The Bible says if my people that are called by my name will humble themselves, turn from their wicked ways, it is then they would call. Before prayer, a man has to ensure that he is a person of God. The man must ensure that he belongs to God, that he knows God, and that he is known of God. The person has to be called by the name of God.

You are still living in one sin and you're adding another sin. So the kind of life you live is very important to the kind of prayer you pray. That is why the Bible says the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. So there are some prayers you can pray that would avail a little but if you want prayer that would avail much, the first qualification is that you must be a righteous man. It is not prayer availeth much, the quality of the life of the person who prays the prayer is a factor of how potent your prayer can be. The psalmist says if i regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not answer my prayer. So if you are adding sin to prayer you are wasting your time.

If you pray with sin in your heart, no matter how fervent and aggressive your prayer is, it will not avail much. The righteous man will pray less and have more result but there is another man who is praying much but he is not righteous. The power of our prayer depends on the intensity of our holy lives, there is nothing you can do without that one. It is when some people cannot live a holy life, and they want to keep praying, then they turn to the devil. Those who do not want to sanctify themselves to the Lord run back to the dirtiness of the world and they get into trouble.

The volume of our words that we speak in prayer and the quality of the life of the people who pray the prayer do not match. Sometimes that is the problem.

Revelation 22:18, "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book".

So if you're subtracting and adding something to suit your opinion instead of believing totally in the Word of God, you are already a candidate of hell fire. Eternity is greater than anything, so if you throw away or sacrifice your eternity because of temporal pleasures, then you have yourself to be blamed. What are those things that you have added to your life? What are those things that are reducing the quality of your righteousness or reducing your prayer effectiveness?

You need to sort yourself out with the Almighty so that he can help you.

However, Eedris speaking in an interview on TVC’s “Entertainment Splash” urged Burna Boy to apologize for the statement because Fela made it happen for him.

He claimed that the star stole most of his songs from Fela to become who he is today and also from afrobeat.

“Burna boy should apologize for that statement because Fela paved the way for him.

“Most of his songs were stolen from Fela’s songs and afrobeat.

“Fela’s songs pass meaningful messages but I wonder what his music teaches,” Eedris added.

The Kaduna State Police Command says it has arrested three notorious kidnappers and rescued a victim in the state.

The Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Kaduna.

The statement said the command on Feb. 19, received information through the DPO, Kasuwar Magani, on kidnap of one Hadiza Gambo, 22 years old, of Bungel Ladugga village in Kajuru Local Government Area.

“She was kidnapped by some suspected armed bandits and taken to unknown destination.

“The Command promptly mobilised a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer who swung into action and arrested one Gambo Abubakar, 57 years old, who was interrogated on the alleged crime,” it said.

According to the statement, the suspect confessed to have masterminded many kidnap incidents including two recent kidnappings at Idon Gida in which ransom of N1.7million was collected.

It said investigation further led to the arrest of two other accomplices; namely Kamal Babawuro and Yahaya Gaiya, and the eventual rescue of the kidnapped victim unhurt who has since been re-united with her family.

“The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department and will be prosecuted on completion of investigation accordingly,” the statement said.

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Friday killed two suspects during exchange of fire with armed robbers in Dawaki area.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the FCT, DSP Anjuguri Manzah disclosed this in a statement in Abuja.

He said the armed robbery gang had engaged police operatives in a fierce gun duel at the robbery scene.

Manzah said the suspects were overpowered and dislodged by police operatives while responding to a distress call from the area.

“Disarrayed by the prompt response of the police operatives, the hoodlums in a bid to escape, shot sporadically at the operatives and set fire on a mattress belonging to their victim.

“As a result of the superior gun power of the police operatives who responded swiftly, two of the hoodlums sustained serious injuries and were arrested while others escaped with bullet injuries.

“The two injured suspects were later rushed to the hospital for medical attention but were confirmed dead at the hospital,” he said.

Manzah said exhibits recovered during the inspection of the scene were one locally made pistol, one dane gun, two cutlasses and one iron cutter.

The PPRO said other exhibits recovered were empty shells, one Toyota Corolla, one phone, one axe, four plasma television sets and one set of home theatre.

The U.S.has opposed plans by the Buhari government to hand about $100 million the American authorities said was stolen by former dictator Sani Abacha to Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state.

According to Bloomberg, the disagreement may hamper future cooperation between the two nations to recover state money moved offshore by Abacha, who Transparency International estimates may have looted as much as $5 billion during his 1993-98 rule.

A commitment by Nigeria to transfer the funds to Bagudu appears to undermine Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s pledge to quell rampant graft in Nigeria.

The U.S. Department of Justice accused Bagudu of being involved in corruption with Abacha.

The DoJ also contends that the Nigerian government is hindering U.S. efforts to recover allegedly laundered money it said it has traced to Bagudu.

Buhari’s administration in response said a 17-year-old agreement between Bagudu and the Obasanjo administration entitles Bagudu to the funds and prevents Nigeria from assisting the U.S., according to recent filings from the District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington.

“This case illustrates how complex and contentious repatriating stolen assets to Nigeria can be,” said Matthew Page, an associate fellow at London-based Chatham House and former Nigeria expert for U.S. intelligence agencies. “Instead of welcoming U.S. efforts, Nigeria’s lawyers appear to be supporting the interests of one of the country’s most powerful families.”

Neither Bagudu nor a spokesman for Attorney General Abubakar Malami responded to requests for comment. A spokesman for Buhari said the settlement and the litigation were matters for Malami. A spokesman for the DoJ declined to comment.

Successive Nigerian governments have sought to recoup the money looted by Abacha, who died in office, and have so far repatriated more than $2 billion with the cooperation of other countries, according to U.S. court filings.

In the case involving Bagudu, the U.S. in 2013 initiated a forfeiture action against a host of assets, including four investment portfolios held in London in trust for him and his family, according to the district court filings.

The DoJ said in a Feb. 3 statement that Bagudu, 58, was part of a network controlled by Abacha that “embezzled, misappropriated and extorted billions from the government of Nigeria.” Bagudu is the chairman of an influential body of governors representing the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Despite the forfeiture action being initiated following a Nigerian state request in 2012, Buhari’s government now says it can’t assist the U.S. because it’s bound by a settlement Bagudu reached with the administration of then-President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003, according to the court filings.

Under the terms of that accord, which was approved by a U.K. court, Bagudu returned $163 million of allegedly laundered money to the Nigerian authorities, which in exchange dropped all outstanding civil and criminal claims against him “stemming from his involvement in government corruption,” according to a Dec. 23 memorandum opinion by District Judge John D. Bates in Washington D.C.

That meant “Nigeria renounced any interest whatsoever” in Bagudu’s trust assets, including those the U.S. is attempting to recover for the West African nation, the opinion stated.

Bagudu was able to return to Nigeria after concluding the settlement and was elected as a senator in 2009. Six years later, he was voted in as Kebbi’s governor in elections that brought Buhari and his party to power.

Investment Portfolios

After Bagudu successfully sued Nigeria for violating the 2003 settlement, Buhari’s administration reached a new agreement with him in October 2018, according to the court filings. That would result in the transfer of ownership of the investment portfolios, worth 141 million euros ($155 million) to the Nigerian state, which would then pay 98.5 million euros to Bagudu and his affiliates, according to Bates’ Dec. 23 opinion. The funds are currently restrained by the U.K. at the request of the U.S.

Nigeria’s government claims the updated 2018 agreement with the Kebbi governor, which requires court approval in the U.K., will “curtail and mitigate its looming exposure” from the judgment in Bagudu’s favour.

Buhari’s administration submitted the 2018 deal to the U.K. court in September to support its application to unfreeze the assets so they can be sent to Nigeria, according to the opinion. The court has yet to make a decision.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a 60-year-old fish-farmer, Muyiwa Otuyalo, for attempting to smuggle in substance believed to be hard drug for his son, Damilola Otuyalo, who is currently in the custody of the Commission’s Ibadan zonal office.

The older Otuyalo was at the premises of the EFCC in Ibadan on Monday, February 17, 2020 supposedly to visit his son. But while discussing with the son, an officer noticed that he brought out a sachet of tablets and handed same to him. The officer subsequently raised alarm which led to the confiscation of the drug.

When the in-house nurse was called upon for assessment of the content, it was revealed that the said item was Rohypnol, a tranquilizer used under strict prescription for treatment of severe insomnia and assist in anesthesia.

The drug is said to possess high sedative effect and is rarely used except when prescribed by licensed medical officers.

The younger Otuyalo was recently arrested after a criminal case of money laundering detected in the United Kingdom was reported against him.

The case which involved £45,000 was a fragment of a wider one involving about £500,000 for which he has been declared wanted by the London’s Metropolitan Police.

He has been on the wanted list of the International Police, Interpol, before the petition was filed at the EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office.

Officers of the Nigerian Interpol were already in contact with the Commission in respect of the said case before the suspect’s father attempted to smuggle in the hard drug for him.

Further investigations are ongoing, even as the Commission intends to hand him over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for possible prosecution of the suspected narcotic case.
