President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the death of his Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari, as an inevitable will of God.

The President’s thoughts on the demise of his right-hand-man was disclosed in a media chat by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

Mallam Shehu, who spoke at the graveside of Kyari, said President Buhari, being a religious person, had accepted the development as the will of God.

“These are not things that we have a choice in, it’s providence, it’s God who says who goes and who stays. The President, obviously a deeply religious person, takes it that it cannot be helped, at the end of the day, all of us will also go that way,” he said.

Speaking about the relationship between the President and his late Chief of Staff, Shehu said Kyari had been a close associate of the President for more than 40 years, describing him as the rallying point of the Muhammadu Buhari Administration.

He went on to note that Kyari offered 100% loyalty to the President and was about the only one person who understood President Buhari’s view on virtually every issue.

“It’s a deeply shocking incident because Abba Kyari is like a pillar there in the Presidency, he’s a rallying point of the entire workforce working the President.

“He has had a long working relationship with the President; more than 40 years of being together. He has a full understanding of the President, he knew exactly where the President stood on every issue and so therefore, he was there to fix it for the President and get them done as the President wants.

“He offered 100% loyalty to the President and all of these things that Abba Kyari brought focus to bear on, long delayed infrastructure; whether they are road, railway, power and so on, all of them have the imprints of the President on them because this is where the President lived and believed and Abba Kyari was there to ensure that President Buhari, at the end of his two terms, leaves behind legacies that will last and for which he will be remembered and these are the things that Abba Kyari cared for”, he said.

Meanwhile, to lay anxieties about a possible breach of public health protocols, especially as the Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC) had warned against conducting private burials for victims of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease, to rest, Shehu noted that the usual ceremonies that would have followed the burial had been put off.

“The burial and the funeral are strictly private. After the burial all those who have come will go home. There will be no ceremonies such as paying of condolence visits.

“We want Nigerians to observe the regulations as put in place by the NCDC and the Federal Ministry of Health, so that we can all stay healthy and and live to be there tomorrow”, he clarified.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state has restricted movements of people from 6:00am to 6:00pm daily and imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on the state.

Daily Trust reports that this was Uzodinma’s first Executive Order since he was inaugurated as the governor of the state.

Uzodinma, in the Executive Order 001 on “COVID-19 Lockdown and Curfew” issued late Friday night, said the restriction would be from 6:00am to 6:00pm daily, while the curfew would last from 6pm to 6am daily until further notice.

He pointed out that violators will be tried by a mobile court and upon conviction, be liable to pay applicable fines as stated in the Order.

The governor, in a statement he personally signed, said the action became necessary in order to preserve the lives of the people of the state.

“That conscious of the need to preserve the lives of Imo people, the government of Imo State is committed to the enforcement of a total lockdown order of movement of persons, except for those on essential services, from 6am to 6pm daily.

“That the government of Imo state hereby imposes a dusk to dawn curfew, in all parts of the state from 6pm to 6am, effective Saturday, April 18 till further notice.

“That borders leading in and out of Imo state are hereby closed effective Saturday 18, till further notice,” the statement partly read. Uzodinma said that only Imo indigenes returning from outside the state would be admitted into the state on condition of proper identification, that they would subject themselves to test for COVID-19 and are quarantined for 14 days before entering the state.

The governor said that anyone who violates this order shall be liable to seven days of Community service and a fine in lieu, in this order; tricycles -N7,000, motorcycles- N 7,000, border closure violators- N10,000, cars- N20,000 and trucks – N50,000. “This Executive Order No 001, 2020 is hereby signed this day Friday, April 17, 2020, at the Government House, Owerri, Imo State,” the statement added.

The Police at Ejigbo Division led by CSP Olabisi Okuwobi have rescued a 16-year old house maid who attempted to commit suicide after she was defiled by a 52-year old married man, Victor Jacob, in Ago area of Okota, Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the girl was rescued in Ejigbo by Police operatives on routine monitoring in the area, who saw her when she bought the deadly insecticide known Sniper to drink. She was rescued and taken to the Police Station where she confessed and told the Police that she actually bought the Sniper to drink in order to end her life.

In the course of investigation, one Victor Jacob, who was married with three children aged 30, 28 and 25, was arrested by the Police at Ago Palace, Okota Division, for allegedly defiling the victim in their area at Apena Street in Ago, Okota.

The guardian of the victim alleged that the suspect, Jacob, defied the girl by engaging her in marathon sex inside his Salon, eventually impregnated her and then tried to abort it.When the guardian suspected changes in her body and informed her that she will be taken to the hospital for test, she fled and ran to Ejigbo area, where she had intended to terminate her life before the Police intervened.
The Police later transferred her to Ago Division where Jacob was undergoing interrogation over the defilement which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
When P.M.EXPRESS correspondent visited Ago Police Division, sources confirmed the arrest of the suspect, Jacob, saying he will be charged before the Court for the alleged offence. It was gathered that Jacob admitted that she had slept with the girl repeatedly and she told him that she was about 20.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the girl’s actual age has become contentious as she had told the Police at Ejigbo Division that she is 19 years old while at the Ago Division she claimed being 16.

Both the suspect, Jacob and the victim hail from Akwa Ibom State. So when they met, they easily connected and started engaging in sex before the act was exposed from the drama surrounding the pregnancy.

He was a Kanuri from Borno, a lawyer and banker.

He was an alumnus of both the University of Warwick and University of Cambridge.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Warwick and a law degree in 1983 from
Cambridge.

He was called to the Nigerian bar in 1984 after attending the Nigerian Law School.

He worked for the law firm Fani-Kayode and Sowemimo after law school.

From 1988 to 1990, he was Editor with the New Africa Holdings Limited Kaduna.

In 1990, he served as a Commissioner for Forestry and Animal Resources in Borno State.

From 1990 to 1995, Kyari was the secretary to the board of African International Bank Limited, a subsidiary of Bank of Credit and Commerce International.

He was also an executive director in charge of management services at the United Bank for Africa.

How Abba Kyari Died From Coronavirus While Working For Nigeria

On Friday, April 17, Nigeria lost one of its most powerful men to the novel coronavirus disease as the death toll from the pandemic climbed to 17 in Africa’s most populous country. Abba Kyari, the ultra-powerful and controversial presidential aide, technocrat, journalist, administrator, banker and politician transited 25 days after testing positive to the virus.

Mr Kyari, who had an underlying medical condition and had sought treatments overseas in the past, was diagnosed with the disease on March 23. Six days later, on March 29, he released a personal statement saying he was leaving the political and administrative capital, Abuja, for the nation’s commercial hub, Lagos, for a continuation of his treatment.

In that March 29 statement, the late chief of staff said:

I am writing to let you know that on medical advice, I will transfer to Lagos later today for additional tests and observation. This is a precautionary measure: I feel well, but last week, I tested positive for coronavirus, the pandemic that is sweeping the world. I have followed all the protocols government has announced to self-isolate and quarantine.

I have made my own care arrangements to avoid further burdening the public health system, which faces so many pressures. Like many others that will test also positive, I have not experienced high fever or other symptoms associated with this new virus and have been working from home. I hope to be back at my desk very soon. I have a team of young, professional, knowledgeable and patriotic colleagues, whose dedication has been beyond the call of duty, who continue to work seven days a week, with no time of the day spared. We will continue to serve the President and people of Nigeria, as we have for the past five years.

We should be calm, measured and diligent – be meticulous in your hygiene, especially with cleaning hands, if possible stay at home or keep your distance. Listen to good advice from the proper authorities: pay no heed to quack cures or fake news from social media. President Buhari will do whatever it takes to protect the health and safety of our people and get the country back on its feet as soon as possible.”

Like the whole world, we are dealing with a new disease. Our experts are learning more all the time about coronavirus, what it does and how we can combat it. What we do know is that while some may become very sick, many others who contract the virus will not, and may have no symptoms at all. This is a disease that recognises no difference between north and south, men or women, rich or poor. We are all in this together.”

As it has now turned out, Mr Kyari did not return alive from that Lagos trip. He has now joined 16 other compatriots who have so far succumbed to the disease in Nigeria and 154,310 other people who have died around the world.

In that March 29 statement, before moving to Lagos, Mr Kyari did not say how he contracted the disease which has so far infected 493 people in Nigeria and 2,251,770 individuals globally (as of 7 a.m. Nigerian time on March 18).

But those close to the departed official said Mr Kyari contracted the disease during a one-week working visit to Germany March 7 to 14. Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr Kyari, in company with the Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, travelled to meet with officials of Siemens AG in pursuit of the deal Nigeria signed with the German energy company towards improving electricity supply in the country.

“Nigerians should note that that man died working without reservation for his country,” Mr Shehu said. “The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel facilitated the deal and President Buhari’s heart is deeply in that project. It was for that reason that Alhaji Kyari and the power minister were sent by the president to that European country for a follow-up meeting. Unfortunately, he caught the virus there, while working with other people to give Nigeria steady electricity.”

A close associate of the late presidential aide, who asked not to be named, added, “It is now that people will know what that man (Mr Kyari) did for this country. That man was committed to leaving a lasting legacy for Nigeria. He was the engine room of the administration. He was a committed and honest patriot who caught a deadly virus in the line of duty.”

Nigeria had on July 22, 2019, signed an Electricity Roadmap Agreement with Siemens for the generation and distribution of 11,000MW of electricity by 2023. The agreement followed a meeting President Buhari held with Chancellor Merkel on August 31, 2018. During the signing of the agreement, Mr Buhari recalled the efforts by previous administrations to fix the nation’s energy problem. He, however, expressed the hope that the opportunity from Germany through Siemens was a good one that could provide the needed solution.

“Now, we have an excellent opportunity to address this challenge,” the president said at the signing ceremony. “Our intention is to ensure that our cooperation is structured under a Government-to-Government framework. No middlemen will be involved so that we can achieve value-for-money for Nigerians. We also insist that all products be manufactured to high quality German and European standards and competitively priced.”

The President then appointed his chief of staff to lead the project execution process on the Nigerian side. Mr Kyari then held several meetings with parties involved in the project before and after the agreement was signed. It was a continuation of that task that took him to Germany in early March. There, he was struck by coronavirus, a condition from which he did not recover.

Mallam Abba Kyari, President Muhammadu Buhari’s chief of staff is dead.

He died of COVID-19 on Friday. He was in his early 70s.

The Presidency confirmed his death in a statement early Saturday.

Media adviser, Femi Adesina made the obituary announcement.

“The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari”, he said.

“The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.

Kyari’s underlying medical conditions was believed to have complicated his battle with the disease. And thus caused his death.

He showed the symptoms of the disease after he returned from a trip to Germany last month.

His positive testing almost shut down the business of government.

Both the Federal Executive Council and National Council of State Meetings were postponed indefinitely.

It also led to a flurry of tests by people who had been in contact with him.

Among these were President Buhari, VP Yemi Osinbajo and Secretary to government, Boss Mustapha.

Governors also took the COVID-19 tests.

Kyari later came out in the open to declare he had COVID-19. He was then hospitalised in a private hospital in Lagos. The presidency did not indicate where he was treated.

But some reports said he was hospitalised at First Cardiology Consultant (FCC), a private health facility located at Thompson Avenue in Ikoyi.

Abba Kyari is survived by four children.

The total confirmed cases in Nigeria are 493 with 17 deaths.

Boko Haram insurgents on Thursday attacked the Army Special Super Camp at Ngamdu, a border town between Borno and Yobe states where the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has relocated, to launch a final onslaught on the terrorists.

The attack occurred barely 72 hours after Gen. Buratai sent a message to defeat the insurgents within a very short time.

The Nation reports that the COAS at the 2020 Special Easter Celebration with the troops at the camp, promised to stay with them until the insurgents are “substantially degraded”.

But the terrorists on Thursday tested their confidence by attacking the camp, as Gen. Buratai and his officers were mapping out strategies to execute his final blow on the insurgents.

Sources at the camp, who are not authorised to speak with the press, said that the insurgents came in motor gun trucks from the southwestern side of the camp and opened fire.

Other sources said that mortar guns were launched at the camp, but no fatality was recorded.

Some of the troops were said to have sustained minor injuries.

Our reporter learnt that Buratai ordered the troops to chase the insurgents away and warned them to focus on a bigger target.

“The Chief of Army Staff told the soldiers to see what happened as a distraction from the main operation they are going to carry out. But we defended ourselves very well by repelling them,” a source said.

Another source said that the insurgents could have been angered by an earlier advance operation the troops carried out yesterday.

“We suspect it was the advance operation we carried out yesterday that angered them and they decided to attack us. You know we killed some of their men in the operation and captured others, so they were angry,” the source said.

One Nigerian student has been arrested and a Canada-wide warrant of arrest has been issued against four others after they allegedly conned victims out of millions of dollars in online romance scams.

The wanted suspects are Kelvin Awani, 24, Jonah Eigbuluese, 22, Joshua Ometie, 25 and Clinton Newton, 27. The four students, alongside Austin Newton, 28, are accused of defrauding victims of over $2 million in the past two years.

Police say the five men were living in Regina during the time. Austin Newton was arrested in January, but the other four suspects could be anywhere in Canada, police say.

The warrants were issued following an 18-month investigation by federal RCMP officers that involved a series of surveillance operations, numerous interviews and the investigation of over 50 Canadian bank accounts.

Austin, who faces numerous fraud-related charges, is scheduled to make his next appearance at Regina provincial court on April 21, 2020.

The Saskatchewan police were struck by the apparent authenticity of these online romances and by the time devoted by the suspects to the people they were victimizing.

Senator Ali Ndume of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq of fraud. He accused the committee of generating fake names for the disbursement.

Ndume also called for the immediate disbandment of the Humanitarian committee in charge of disbursing palliatives to less-privileged Nigerians. According to him, the names of the beneficiaries of COVID-19 palliatives were fake.

He further accused the minister of lacking the competence required to head the Humanitarian committee. He advised President Buhari to set up a task force that will manage the disbursement of the palliatives meant to cushion the negative effects of teh COVID-19 lockdown.

The Senator said: “I’m not trying to make allegations against the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development; what I’m saying are facts.

“If they will continue with the way they are doing now, they had better not distribute the palliative at all because it’s a fraud.

“My concern now is the manner and ways the palliative measures taken by the president are being executed. We have received numerous complaints and it’s very unfortunate. Left to me, I’m calling for the so-called Humanitarian committee headed by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs to be disbanded immediately and the president should set up a task force to handle issues of palliatives.”

The lawmaker further said;

“The task force under the Chairmanship of each state governor should include a Senator and House of Assembly member from each state, the Army, Police, Civil Defense, religious organization, Red Cross, Civil Society Organisations to ensure the distribution of the palliatives; I don’t mind the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and members of Social Investment Programmes as members.

“Imagine Zamfara state, which happens to be the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs’ home state, has 291, 629 households and 1, 341,153 individuals captured under the National Social Register of Poor and Vulnerable households for March 2020, leaving Sokoto State which is adjudged as the poorest state in Nigeria with a paltry 3,347 households and 18, 435 individuals. Borno has only 7,130 households and 33,728 individuals.

“I have reliable information that even names they have generated is fake, the BVN is not fraud-proof, one person will generate thousands of names and after conniving with banks, they are issued BVN. Investigation will reveal all these.

“They have the names of their cooks, drivers, relatives, relatives of their house helps and those they call the poorest of the poor and give this money to them.

“I call on the press to join in the call to stop this callous act, you can imagine the situation our people are in at the moment, yet some people are rushing to either share or steal this money.”

A Nigerian man, 46 identified as Simon Okafor Chukwudi has been declared wanted by the Police in Ghana on Friday, April 17.

Chukwudi fled the country after he was found to have tested positive for coronavirus. He was said to have entered the country from Germany before Ghana declared a lockdown and was subsequently tested with the result showing he was positive for coronavirus.

According to report by Daily Graphic, an online news medium in Ghana, the man was said to have disappeared from his residence in Wa area of the Upper West Region of the country since April 14 after he was asked to self-isolate and his sample taken for testing.

It was gathered that the Nigerian disappeared from his residence at Wapaani, a suburb of Wa immediately his status was revealed to him by the health directorate in the Upper West region and the health officials who came to take him to the isolation centre could not find him.

So, policemen in the Upper West Region have launched a manhunt for him and have called on residents to volunteer information to assist in apprehending him.

The Upper West Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Osei Kufuor Afreh, disclosed that the Nigerian citizen is part of the imported COVID-19 cases in the region.

He however, indicated that health officials have tried to transport the patient to the isolation centre since Tuesday but could not trace him.

The Upper West Region in Ghana have recorded six COVID-19 cases so far.

Five of those cases were people who travelled into the country about three weeks ago from South Africa, Nigeria, United Kingdom, Australia and Germany before the country’s president announced the closure of the borders, while the sixth person travelled into the region from Western Region.

Vincent Prosper, a coronavirus patient has been declared wanted by the Abia State government.

A statement by the Information Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi-Kalu claimed that Prosper reportedly sneaked into Abia State from a-yet-to-be mentioned neighbouring state.

According to the statement, the suspected COVID-19 patient was last seen around 153, Azikiwe Road, Aba.

It urged anyone with useful information on Prosper’s whereabouts and those who have had contacts with him to call 0700 2242 362 or contact Commissioner for Health, Dr. Osuji immediately.

The State Government also announced the continuous extension of ongoing lockdown in the state.

Bello El-Rufai, the son of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has apologised after threatening to gang-rape the mother of a twitter user.

Recall that he added an ethnic diatribe to the insult which generated serious backlash on social media.

In a private message sent to a Twtter user, Bello El-Rufai had written:

“Tell your mother I’m passing her to my friends tonight,” Mr El-Rufai said to his detractor, before adding an ethnic diatribe: “No Igbo sounds please!”

He has now taken to the same platform to share a public apology to the user, women all over and the Igbo ethnic group for his comments.

He wrote:

"A few days ago I made a comment that was wrong, unbecoming and contrary to the values on which I was raised. I wish to withdraw that statement and apologise to the gentleman concerned for the hurtful comment. I also apologise for appearing to attack an entire ethnic group for the misdeed of one person. I regret the sexual innuenfo in the private message and apologise unreservedly for it. I wish to state very strongly that the statement was made during the heat of the moment and I wish to put on the record that I do not condone sexual violence.

I certainly do not believe that there can be any justification for gender-based crimes. I am learning from the episode in the continuous journey of emerging as a better person. I have apologised to my mother in person. I have also reached out to the women in my life and apologised. I realise that the intensity around this matter stems partly from my surname. The mistakes I made with the private message and in smearing an ethnic group because of one person are now being replicated by people that are attacking my parents and my family because of my conduct.

I am one of many children in a family raised with standards of decency and strong values of which my recent conduct has fallen short. I appreciate the time that friends and loved ones have taken to show me the error of my ways.

I apologise to the general public in recognition of the duty to acknowledge wrongdoing and strive to be better.

The Nigeria Police have tightened security and declared war over the activities of hoodlums and criminal elements popularly known as ‘One Million Boys’ in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports as was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana in a statement.

He said that Special Forces were deployed to Igando, Idimu, Ikotun, Agege, Dopemu, Abattoir, Mangoro, Alakuko, and other parts of Lagos State to provide round the clock patrols.

The teams have clear instruction to deal decisively with criminal elements operating under whatever guise in accordance with the law. “The Command will not relent on its efforts in protecting the lives and properties of the citizens and residents. Members of the Public, especially residents of the communities mentioned above, are enjoined to remain calm and support the ongoing efforts of the Police in ridding the state of criminal elements” he said.

Elkana stated that the Command with the support of the good people of Lagos State has dealt a big blow to this criminal gang and several other gangs over the last four months. Over 800 members of the gangs and their leaders were arrested and charged to Court and they are still in correctional centres.

“No criminal gang is capable of unleashing terror on our communities. We are far bigger and stronger than criminal elements” he said

He stated that rumour mongering and spreading of fake news pose a lot of dangers to our collective efforts in crime prevention and control.

Four members of the Kano State COVID-19 taskforce have tested positive for Coronavirus.

This was disclosed by the state government on Friday.

Co-Chairman of the Taskforce, Prof. Abdulrazak Habib and three other members tested positive for coronavirus.

Dr Aminu Tsanyawa, Health Commissioner, in a statement confirmed the development on Friday.

The commissioner, in the statement issued by the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Hadiza Namad, urged the general public to keep social distancing, avoid overcrowding and stay at home to keep safe as it continues to take measures to contain the spread of the disease in the state.

Dr. Amina Umar Ganduje, daughter of Kano state governor, has gone into self-isolation after a co-member on the State Task Force on COVID-19 she worked with got infected with the virus.

Other members of the Kano Task Force team include health commissioner Aminu Tsanyawa, environment commissioner Kabiru Getso, Imam Wada, secretary of the committee and Deputy governor Gawuna, chairman of the committee.

However, all members of the team have gone into isolation after co-chairman of the committee, Professor Abdulrazaq Garba Habibu tested positive to Coronavirus.

DailyTrust quoted a reliable source within the government to have said, “You know, since they have mingled with the co-chair, whose status is now known, the best for the rest members of the committee is to go for self-isolation.

“Their specimen has been taken for test, but their results are not out for them to know their status.

“We are praying that the results would turn negative. But I can confirm to you that virtually all members of the Kano task force on COVID-19 are now in self-isolation and are waiting for their results,” the source said.

Abdulrazaq Garba Habibu, a professor of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, had since been admitted at the state isolation center at Kwanar Dawaki.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje inaugurated the task force on 21st March 2020 with a core mandate to curtail the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Kano as well as rendering effective management of cases.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kano State as of 10:20 pm on Thursday was 21.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to prosecute 22 staff of American oil giant, ExxonMobil, who entered the state on Thursday in violation of the lockdown on its border.

Governor Nyesom Wike, while speaking on Friday morning, said the state was prepared to test the laws on its ability to shut its borders and protect the lives of its people against COVID-19.

Speaking to newsmen at the Government House Port Harcourt, Wike said the 22 staff would be taken to court and made to face the law as he did to two pilots and passengers of Caverton Helicopter.

He said: “ExxonMobil brought in 22 persons without telling us so that they can be quarantined and tested. I will fight this on my own; the security agencies have orders from Abuja (not to be involved) but we will go to court

“We (Rivers) and ExxonMobil, we will test the law; the law must be tested. We will do the same thing to ExxonMobil as we did to Caverton Helicopters. They will not be treated differently, just because they are a foreign company and the other a Nigerian company.

“These people don’t want to respect the laws just because they are ExxonMobil but this will expose those in Abuja because nobody can use Rivers as you. They should not kill Rivers people because they hate Wike.”

He flayed persons and unions who have taken up the state on the face-off with the indigenous air shuttle company insisting “law is not practiced on the pages of newspapers, but in court.”

“People in Abuja are not happy (because of the low infection rate in Rivers state). They are not happy that there are no reports of new cases every day.”

However, the management of ExxonMobil in an email from its Manager, Media, and Communication Oge Udeagha, said: “We are working with Rivers state government to resolve a transportation misunderstanding.

“As always, wherever we operate, we comply with all applicable laws, rules and regulations.”

Attah urged the residents to obey the sit-at-home order and save themselves from the hardship that might follow disobedience.

”Today, about 42 persons were convicted by the mobile court that sat at four different locations around the territory.

“The enforcement team has stopped being the prosecutor and the judge. What we do is: once we arrest violators of the lockdown, we hand them over to the court.

”We invaded a beer parlour in Dutse Alhaji that is overcrowded in spite of the lockdown order. The people were arrested and handed over to the court. The judges are considerate. Most suspects plead guilty and are given fines to pay,”.

Attah said that the establishment of the mobile court had strengthened operations of the team and reinvigorated its commitment toward achieving objectives of the lockdown order.

He said that although none of the convicts had been sent to any correctional centre, they paid fines for the offences for which they pleaded guilty.

The chairman also disclosed that about 38 motorcycles were impounded in Dutse Alhaji for violating the order banning motorcycle operation.
